2014 FIFA World Cup - Brazil

Anyone hearing the shit about the Qatar WC? Not only is there all the documents about bribes, but apparently the migrant workers that are building the venues in stifling heat are dying at an average of one PER DAY. Can they take back the WC and send it somewhere else?

There's an article on Deadspin referencing a Sunday Times story. They quoted the VP of FIFA saying if they can prove the things alleged, they would look into doing a re-vote.

Considering five FIFA executive committee members (22 at any given time) who vote on World Cup locations have either been banned or resigned because of corruption allegations, this comes as little surprise.

I wouldn't put it past Russia for corruption in regards to the 2018 vote, but Russia is probably better at hiding their tracks (so no threat of a re-vote there).

If they did re-vote, they'd (FIFA) probably use the 2026 rules where there would be 209 votes rather than just an ExCo. Which means more opportunity to bribe. Yay!

I keep laughing because it would be comical if they re-voted and Qatar won again (i.e. bribing). I'm sure some voters would actually invite a re-vote (to line their pockets even more).

Glad to have Ian Darke & Macca back together. Jon Champion & Stewart Robson will be a great duo as well. Also happy to be getting Derek Rae back. I dearly miss him calling Champions League games.

I don't know about Fernando Palomo & Alejandro Moreno, but they're mostly only on Mexico/S. America matches (and almost anyone is better than Gus Johnson/Eric Wynalda on FOX).

If anyone visits Sao Paulo in Brazil, make sure to eat 2-3 Mortadella Sandwiches. It's cocaine on a bun (figuratively, maybe even literally cause they're that good).

Just posted a ton of bets - champion, group winners & knockout stage qualifiers, Golden Boot, Golden Glove and individual match bets for the first leg of the group stage. More to come... let's hope I can keep up with this.

Posted this in the Gaming thread here just thought I'd leave it here as well.

Just created a 2014 FIFA World Cup Pick'em group on Yahoo! for anyone interested. I figured since most of the fantasy sports and pick'em's on here are done through Yahoo! I'd follow suit. Just follow the link if you're interested. Click on "Join a Private Group" and put in the Group ID# and password and you're all set. If you'd like me to send you an email invite, I can do that as well, just let me know.

Here are the scoring rules. You get the same amount of points for predicting the game result as well as predicting the correct score of the game for each round. Group Stage - 2 points, Round of 16 - 4 points, Quarter Final - 6 points, Semi Final - 8 points, Third Place - 6 points (Really, Yahoo! ?) & Final - 10 points.

The Belgium/U.S. closed-door scrimmage set for June 12th has been cancelled by Belgium coach Marc Wilmots over traffic concerns. Yes, traffic concerns that Belgium's 32-mile trek to the U.S.'s base could take up to FIVE hours...on a holiday no less!

*Shakes head*

Both FIFA and the IOC are in dire need of reform. The scope/expectation of these events needs to be scaled back (not every one needs to be Beijing in '08.) Give them to the places that have the best infrastructure and existing facilities already in place (AKA the anti-Sochi.) The bubble will eventually burst if they don't.

The problem is money talks and the only countries whose money is talking right now are the ones who have no problem spending freely...i.e. Russia, Qatar, etc. You know, places where democracy and reform don't exactly run wild.

You know there are issues when Oslo can't convince its citizens to support a Winter Olympics bid. Oslo. Norway. The cradle of winter sport. *Shakes head again*

I know we can get more than three people for the pick'em. It's only fun when you have a decent amount of people participating. I believe we had a fair amount for Euro '12.
