2013 Week 6 B1G FB Open Thread

Kill will miss scUM game today.
That's just an unfortunate situation, with no real winner. How do you continue to employ a coach who is always at risk of going into seizure on the sidelines (he's done it, what, 4-5 times now?) and misses whole games because of his health. Somebody, be it the varmint administration or his family, should really sit down with Kill and tell him he's doing no favors to the program or his health by continuing to coach.

Hard to tell a guy to step down that is 4-1, and not only took his team to a bowl game, but were competitive as well (something they hasnt been since 2009).

Is Nebraska this good, or Illinois this bad?

Who knows.

Both teams are 3-1.

Nebraska is 12th nationally for rush yards and 15th in average points scored.

Illinois is 18th nationally in passing yards and 24th in average points scored.

Neither team boast a top 50 defense.

Nebraska has yet to go on the road and they lost their only Top 25 match up - UCLA by 20 points (at home).

This is Illinois first road test and their lone loss was also to their only Top 25 game - at Washington by 10 points.

When there are health issues, you certainly can. And those 4 wins are against San Jose St, UNLV, New Mexico State (4-10 combined) and FCS Western Illinois.

I agree he's done a nice job digging that prgram out of the abyss, but at some point you have to look at the bigger picture. The guy's had to leave 4-5 games, and now will miss this one entirely because of seizures. The players will say the polite things in the press, but it's gotta be unnerving worrying that your head coach can drop at any minute.

To be fair, he's not considered to be at a high risk of fatality based on his epilepsy, from what I can see. He doesn't suffer from many (severe epileptics suffer anywhere from 1 a day to as many as dozens) and he's taking medications that assist in that. He hasn't suffered from any brain trauma in the past from seizures either.

Kill has helped rebound that program, and while I'll always be upset with Minny for letting Mason go, they should keep Kill. The kids play hard for him, you don't hear of many problems off the field, and to boot if they fired him they'd have a lawsuit so large they'd wish they never had thought of it!

They've got a system in place to take over when he's unable to go, but overall I think this is "common" enough now for the team that it isn't a huge distraction.
