2013 Week 13 CFB Open Thread

I'm looking forward to the "Auburn should jump tOSU if they win the Iron Bowl against a Bama team who clearly ranks as one of the greatest teams of recent memory!!!!!!!"

I can't wait for the playoff that I've hated the idea of for twenty years with a white hot rage. Fuck espwhatever

I'm a member of one other forum. In two years I may have 100 posts. It's not a sports forum, but I recently learned there is a sub-forum where some guys discuss CFB.
Most of them seem to be SEC fans.

So...I ask this...

So what is the board consensus on a perennial middle of the pack team like Mizzou coming into the SEC and possibly competing for a conference title? Just a single good year for Mizzou? Maybe the SEC is down a tad this year? Mizzou here to stay, watch out?

The first reply

Mizzou's been on a slow and steady ascent since about 2007 or so, and before that, they improved their offense steadily from Pinkle's first year to 07, and have maintained their current high standard since then on that side of the ball (other than last year's worse-than-Florida disaster of nonstop injuries). Missouri had a long run where they won the north division of the Big 12 every year but they never clinched the win in the Big 12 championship game because their defense wasn't on par with the teams from the south. even though they were slowly getting better and more consistent on defense.

More in the quote box...
We have a new coordinator there for the past few years and the defensive play has really improved. Currently we have a full roster of upper classmen, a new conditioning program that has prevented injuries, leading to a healthy, senior dominant team for this year. Next year may have a fall off, but the experience Maty Mauk got filling in for Franklin will probably help diffuse some of the pain of the first year of breaking in a new QB. In any event, Mizzou's been consistently overlooked because they never won their conference, but they've been at the top of that conference for almost every year for the past 10. They're better than they've been given credit most of the time, the media is just hesitant to believe in them, and the few times they've gotten media hype they've usually faceplanted soon after. This year is nice because Mizzou has won handily almost all its games and the media is still ignoring them and trying to pretend Mizzou doesn't exist. I'm rather happy with that scenario because Mizzou plays better when they're in the top ten when the media forgets to pay attention to the team.

I'm looking forward to Manziel leaving college football, the media slobber/worship at the alter of his cock i ness is tiresome and irritating. I loved the highlight reel of Manziel's plays from the LSU game were all of his terrible fucking decision making resulting in bad outcomes, son of a bitch has had a bunch of lucky breaks with some really awful throws. that was delightful to see for a change. He's going to be a Ryan Leaf sized turd in the NFL and McCarron will probably win a few superbowls, so karma will settle this eventually.

From 1996-2011, Mizzou won their division...3 times. That's the shortest "long run" I've ever seen.

2007, 2008, 2010 are the years they won the division. Lost to Big Game Bob in 07 & 08. The 2008 Big12 title game...Oklahoma beat Mizzou 62-21.

It's like they believe that they were always destined for greatness and have been on the rise for twenty years...despite not having a single conference title yet.
Oh yeah, in two of those awesome years, they played B1G teams in their bowl games. Beating NW by a TD in OT in 2008, and um...losing to Iowa by 3 in the 2010 Insight Whatever Bowl.

This team may win a division in the SEC.

The B12 North was also not something worth bragging about winning. Sorry Nebraska fans, but you guys have been AWOL for awhile now.
May as well thump your chest at winning the Big East and proceeding to get curb-stomped in whatever BCS bowl got to pick last that year.

What's silly is that I'd wager that if you talked to that same dude when Misery was in the B12, he'd have been calling for a new coach and saying "we're always shitty" and such.

It's amazing how switching to the best conference ever makes a team better right away and apparently, it makes them retroactively better as well.

Just for shits n giggs, I looked up Nebraska's division titles also.

From 1996-2010, Nebraska won 9 Division titles and two CCG's.

While Nebraska is nowhere near it's former self, and they have...competed in the B1G, they haven't had a season yet as a member of the B1G as good as Missouri is having this season in the almighty SEC. THIS WHOLE SYSTEM IS OUT OF ORDER!!!
