2012 Wide Receiver ( WRs ) Discussion

If we can land Diggs, I think this group will be pretty good. Have Brown and Smith as the starters and put Diggs all over the field. Reed showed promise last year before his injury, Fields is descent, and Spencer should have an increased role. TY needs to be consistent catching the ball or he will never see the field. The incoming freshman will provide some good depth. Mike Thomas is probably the most ready to play right now at 6-4 200lbs with good speed. Southward could shock some people because he got noticed during his senior season and his tape is fairly impressive. And no matter what anybody says about him, Epitropoulos can make plays. He was great during the US vs. World game.

Tight End looks very good with Jake playing an increased role. Fragel moves over to tackle, but that won't be an issue. Vanett will be the second receiving option at the position, with Heuerman being more of a blocker.

Really liked what I saw from Devin Smith this year. He's got a lot of upside. Also, I was very impressed with Verlon Reed the first few games before he got injured. I think he's going to be a great possession receiver for us.

It will be interesting to see the depth chart shake up. You'd have to think we are going to see some transfers. Lots of receivers on the roster.

so on 3rd and 15 we will actually have plays for the receivers now instead of a Braxton Miller draw?!!?!?! niiiiiice

Not like we'll be seeing a lot of 3rd-and-15's anymore. :)

I will be interested to see how Thomas does with spring ball. I think Southward and Frank E could be redshirt possibilities. Although I think Frank will be hard to keep off the field. Southward seems like the biggest unknown quantity in the class.

Would it be even remotely possible that TY could switch to TE?

I'm looking forward to finding out whether our problems in the passing game last season were predominantly a result of scheme or of talent.

I'd say scheme and lack of experience.

Miller's lack of experience to make the dump off. And the receivers lack of experience to get open fast enough for him.

The scheme speaks for itself.
