2012 TSUN football news

The same Wisconsin that torched Nebraska and went blow for blow with Oregon ends up #14 while Oregon is #4. Interesting. I would have expected Bielema to run it up at least as much as Chip, but clearly that's not the case. Or was it not for lack of trying?

Oregon did put up 621 yards and 45 points on Wiscy. Wiscy scored a shit-ton of points (42+ points against nine different teams: 51 vs UNLV, 49 vs No Ill, 59 vs South Dakota, 48 vs Nebraska, 59 vs Indiana, 62 vs Purdue, 42 vs Minnesota, 45 vs PSU, and 42 vs MSU in their rematch), so Bulimia wasn't holding back.

Michigan is on their way to a second strong class but is severely lacking at the WR position thus far. I don't think Treadwell fixes that by himself either.

DeVeon Smith certainly lessens the blow at RB but I think Isaac would have helped them out in the passing & return departments long before running back.

I like the WR's we picked up.

Jaron Dukes
York

2012 Class
Amara Darbough
Jeh Chesson

I am worried about DL, more than WR.

I'm not arguing they can't play or haven't found good prospects, I just don't think they're on par with most of their pickups, particularly at OL, LB, S and the '13 QB & RB duo.

I think Darboh is underrated. I'm not sure that the '13 guys are as big of sleepers but that's what makes recruiting fun.

They offered Quick, Daniels, LaRue, North, Oliver, Allen, Massington, Onwualu, Ateman, Stringfellow, LeMay too.

I think they took York because they desperately need receivers and took a flyer on him.

I find all the Hoke bashing funny, he is recurting better than last two coaches by miles. He will have a top ten class again this year..

scUM class rankings (per Scout)

2003: #8 (3.59)
2004: #5 (3.45)
2005: #3 (3.65)
2006: #9 (3.60)
2007: #10 (3.70)
2008: #6 (3.56)
2009: #14 (3.41)
2010: #12 (3.33)

2012: #4 (3.64)

How short are your miles up there anyway?

Another Harvard-of-the-West Man, clearly. :!

Who said I was using scout or anybody elses rankings to rate Hoke's classes vs the last two coaches?

TP was one of the best highly ranked players in the country when he came out, would you take him now knowing what you know?

On the flip side Dane Sanzenbacher was just a three/four star. I would take 11 Dane Sanzenbacher on my team over TP.

It's not all about rankings

Really not being snarky, but.....then what are you basing it on?

Character? Need? Height? Number of pairs of socks being worn? An appropriate allocation of scholarships to each position (rather than 37 slots dots and -6 defensive tackles )?

If it's not all about rankings, why thump your chest about another top-ten class?

Then how do you make the comparisons?

I'm not measuring coaches. I'm discussing a major hole in Michigan's roster at WR and whether the incoming guys will fix it. I think they'll continue to have growing pains until they land more than one Treadwell every 5 years. I imagine that Hoke will start landing kids once they have an actual passing game in place (instead of a remarkably athletic jump baller).

No, but that has nothing to do with his talent level, which Scout accurately rated imo (the hype beyond that might have been a bit much, but he definitely had #1 overall talent).

Of course it's not, but we don't have that much to go on.

Dane was a baller, he was a stud on the field, he just looked like the water boy off of it. He was first team all state as a junior
A first-team all-state pick, Sanzenbacher finished with 65 receptions for more than 1,500 yards and 16 touchdowns. He added 60 tackles and 11 interceptions.
Further more, he was big time in big games:
As a senior, Sanzenbacher finished the season with 61 receptions for 1,079 yards and 11 touchdowns. A big-game player, he had 40 receptions for 842 yards and nine touchdowns, 40 solo tackles and eight interceptions in seven career playoff games.

The last line is one, LOL If the WR is taller than 5' 10''

I am basing it getting kids who want to come to Michigan and play. Who are kids of good character and have a great work ethic and rankings.

Texas gets the best classes year in and year out, not so good the last few years with records. Even Florida had great classes under Meyer, but his last two season were not up to his standards either.

Now look at Tressel, he had great classes ranking wise, but also got gets that wanted to be buckeye's, understood what it meant to be a buckeye.

Hoke understands what type of player Michigan needs, he's not looking for the 5 star pre-maddona IMO. He's looking for players who will leave it all on the line for him.

Like a Dane Sanzenbacher, let me ask you this question. If OSU needed a catch to win a game, would you want it to go to Sanzenbacher or Posey? Who would you want to throw it TP or Krenzel?

Players who are not selfish, who believe in the team.

Dane went undrafted, yes he was a baller. I work in Toledo!!!

All of the kids on Beaver's list wanted to do that too. So far I'd argue all of their ratings were either accurate or too generous.

There's a strong argument to be made that many Texas players have less room to be coached & trained up. Obviously star rankings are not infallible, they're a decent metric when we have little else.

Offer lists are another decent one, though they are limited by kids claiming offers they don't have, intentionally or by misinterpreting "We love you (but we're not actually ready to take your commitment)"
Now look at Tressel, he had great classes ranking wise, but also got gets that wanted to be buckeye's, understood what it meant to be a buckeye.
This is a crucial element but there aren't many metrics out there for comparing character of high schoolers.

I think most coaches want the latter. The former is debatable.

Neither!

DeVier & Terrelle are pretty different teammates.

Because of concussions (and size).
