Bobby Valentine, an analyst for ESPN, will be the next manager of the Boston Red Sox, a source close to the team said Tuesday night.

Valentine was offered the job Tuesday and accepted it. Valentine, who appeared at a charity event in Japan on Monday, is scheduled to fly back home at midnight ET Wednesday.

Well, I can say I'm a closet Red Sox fan now. Bobby V's a great guy, as far as I can tell. He hosts a great Buckeye game watch location at his pub in Stamford, CT (listed in the alumni/game watch location thread). The Buckeye alums get the whole back room, it's really pretty cool.

When we were there suffering through the 2007/8 NCG against LSU, he came through and tried to cheer us all up. When finally there was no hope, he bought us all shots, snakebites I think.

Sox acquire Andrew Bailey from Oakland. Josh Reddick is a part of the deal.

Bailey's only pitched 100 innings in the past two years.

It'll be my first time at Comerica. Anyone else been there? Give me the scoop on the park.
