2012 Preseason and regular polls (official thread)

The dispatch concedes no AP championship possible:

I had them down for an AP championship, but I concede.

If only the refs had caught ND with two men on the field with the same number .... then we would have been third.

At least in the playoff system, being #4 works. The playoff system will be a huge help to tOSU until the SOS comes back up.

The strength of schedule is a little problematic in 2014, but we get to start higher.

The B1G playoff game will help though.

Georgia falls to #6, and #4, #5 and #6 all move up one place. (link)

Buckeyes more than two-full places below #2 Alabama on the average pollsters dance card. About half a place higher than Florida. A good bowl victory by Florida, Oregon or Georgia could see them move back on top of the Buckeyes.

Still, show of hands, how many people thought we'd see the Buckeyes end the season in the top 5?

Well done, Buckeyes!

My independent and balanced opinion

14 astute voters rank Ohio State #2
17 competent voters rank Ohio State #3
10 incompetent fools rank Ohio State #7 or lower

Here are the rankings for Ohio State by individual ballot...

Lost in the chatter about the BCS and the SEC's dominance of it is the fact that the rules are different for SEC teams. Not officially, but in the minds of voters.

Most anyone else is eliminated with one loss. As we've seen, it takes two losses to eliminate SEC teams. Of course they're going to be in the game most years under those conditions.

Agreed. It's downright pathetic. This year is actually the correct matchup though.

Sad but true. When they start losing the NC game, that will end. This year, that's very unlikely, I think. Next year could be a different story.:osu:
