2012 Preseason and regular polls (official thread)

Disagree. If Ohio State runs the table this year and next, there's no possible way they are left out of anything.

Take another look at the computers right now. We will probably end up outside the top ten in the computers, even if we run the table this year. How bad is it? Run the table this year and we could still end up ranked 6-8 at best.

Perhaps you are right and the two years running argument will be very convincing. I don't think so, given the low strength of the B1G and the incentive for ESPiN and others to run us down to boost their aligned teams. Look at where Florida is ranked and they nearly lost to a circus clown show yesterday. Look at the new SEC - Big 12 bowl agreement. There's not much of an incentive to boost the B1G.

Now, perhaps our OOC opponents perform better and the B1G opponents do too, but if they don't, we can forget about it.

Here's a cheery thought. If the B1G doesn't get it's act straight, then Ohio State could run the table next year and still be in this same position.

For everyone on BP who claims that they really don't care if teams like Wisky, TSUN, and PSU win convincingly against good opponents in their OOC schedules, this is the price that Ohio State will pay fi they don't. Just winning out will not be enough.

If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts...

One year to the next is all but meaningless and only a little bit less so is each season from beginning to end. Look at the preseason #1. Look at where Sparty has fallen. Look at how much of a joke Florida is appearing to be. I could go on, but I think you get the point.

Predictions:

Stanford and USC beat Oregon
USC beats ND
Ole Miss beats Georgia
Seminoles beat Gators
Baylor beats K-State
Texas beats K-State

I'm willing to take your money any time you would like to put it up on any of these bets. Well, any other than ND beating USC, I agree there.

BTW

Is anyone else really paying attention to the SEC scheduling strategy at the moment? Everyone is noticing that when they play each other they swap spots in the polls but look at their schedules this late in the season. The SEC is scheduling their POS pattycake OOC opponents NOW instead of the first of the year. This allows them to stack 5-6 teams in the top 10-15 and push other conferences out. They aren't going to lose these stupid games late in the season so they have no chance of falling in the polls regardless of how our teams do in much tougher games. They make themselves look so much better early on so that when the BCS polls come out they are way up there and wins against each other look that much better. Why isn't anyone in the grand scheme of things noticing this crap?!?

Just did a quick check, our final SOS on the computers should place it at about the level of the ACC and just above the MWC. Our OOC really killed us this year. That and a weak Big Ten should place our SOS at about #55 at year end, a bit up from the 60s where we are now.

There is absolutely no fucking way that we get left out of next year title game if we run the table this year and next, going 25-0 in the process...I don't care if our SOS in bottom of the barrel.

If we look like we did earlier in the year and the B1G is struggling to look good next to the ACC i can see it happening.

OSU is going to need some help next year. If you think this year's schedule is bad, wait until 2013. OSU exchanges Nebraska and Michigan State for Northwestern and Iowa. OOC is Cal again, plus SDSU (8-3 this year), Buffalo (3-7), and FAMU (4-6 in I-AA)

The difference will be the hype leading in.

First off, there is no doubt that Ohio State would be ranked higher if they were bowl elegible. The fact that they aren't relevent in the NC hunt is what is keeping them out of the minds of a lot of AP voters. That said, they still wouldn't be in the top 2.

But the biggest difference will be the lead up to the season. With the entire offense returning in 2013, if we finish 12-0 this year, there is little doubt that we will be a favorite to be the best team in the country, likely being a top 5, maybe even a top 2 team entering the season in the polls. This will make it more difficult for other teams to jump us, whereas this year, we have needed to jump other teams.

If we go 25-0 under Meyer, we will be in the national championship game.

As I said, if we go 25-0 over two years, no way we're not in the title game...we ain't fucking Boise State.

Other than freaking K-State being the #1 team in the country right now (I think I just vomited in my mouth a bit), how is it that Bama gets handled at home (irregardless of them ALMOST coming back), and they only drop 3 spots?!?

WTF is that shiat?

And how is it that the freaking SEC has SIX teams in the top 10?!? WTF is that?!?

Not to mention the fact that you'll probably have a Heisman Trophy candidate (Top 5 at least) at QB next year.
