I don't understand was the first match only 3 sets or am I missing something. Have have not been following the tennis.BB73;2189318; said:Helluva match between Federer and Del Potro today in the semis.
DelPo won the first set, and then Fed won the second in a tiebreak.
DelPo wasn't broken in the match until it was 9-9 in the 3rd set, and then he broke back at love to even it back up. Federer finally won it 19-17 after 4:25 on the court.
It was high quality tennis, I think Fed ended up with a 64/41 winners/unforced total, and Del Potro was 51/34.
The final against the Murray/Djokovic winner will be the best of 5 sets.

The third set score reminds me of how tennis used to be scored until they brought in the new tiebreaker.

I misread the last sentence of the post I quoted:stupid:BB73;2189329; said:The only best-of-5 set match at the Olympics will be the men's final.
The best-of-3 set matches all have tiebreaks except for the final set. Most of the majors now use the 'no tiebreak in the final set' rule - without checking, I think the US Open is the only one that has a tiebreak in the final set.
edit - I looked it up - the majors are like that for singles play - but some use a tiebreak in the final set for doubles.
