Here's a list of some of the area's top recruits for next year:
? Austin Appleby, quarterback, North Canton Hoover: It says a lot when a quarterback receives an offer in his junior year. Appleby got one from Toledo this past weekend. You can be sure the rest of the Mid-American Conference will be sniffing around. In an injury-shortened season, Appleby completed 51 percent of his passes (94-of-186) for 1,427 yards and 14 touchdowns.
? Ryan Anderson, guard, Kent Roosevelt: Anderson has to be a patient kind of guy. It would take that and the wisdom of Solomon to endure what this offensive lineman has with the University of Pittsburgh. He committed to former coach Dave Wannstedt, who resigned, and watched as Wannstedt's first replacement was fired for alleged domestic abuse. Through it all, Anderson stayed the course. He still seems set to head to Pitt and play for coach Todd Graham.
? Bri'onte Dunn, running back, GlenOak: Billed as a ''young Jim Brown'' ? there's nothing like putting pressure on a high school player ? Dunn will enter his season knowing that he's already committed to Ohio State, after having received offers from Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Notre Dame.
? DaShawn Hall, free safety, GlenOak: The free safety was ranked as one of the state's best sophomores, but suffered through injury during his junior season. He has drawn interest from Ohio State, Ohio University and Pitt and possesses the size ? 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds ? to play defensive back in college. He runs a 4.55 40-yard dash, according to scouting services.
? LaTroy Lewis, defensive end, Archbishop Hoban: Fast and powerful, Lewis and teammate Greg McMullen are bookends for Hoban. He plays ferociously on defense, and he and Lewis were bright spots on a disappointing Hoban football team. He has offers from Ohio State and Cincinnati and interest from a host of other schools.
? Mason Monheim, running back-middle linebacker, Orrville: He has an offer from Illinois. He has visited schools that include Cincinnati, Michigan and Nebraska.
? Ross Martin, kicker, Walsh Jesuit: Coming into last season, Martin was ranked the second-best kicker in the nation and performed well at camps prior to the season. He has drawn interest from schools in the Big Ten, Southeast Conference and others.
? Greg McMullen, defensive end, Archbishop Hoban: It would be easy just to type see LaTroy Lewis here, except McMullen is faster and stronger than his teammate. He has offers from Ohio State, Michigan State, Nebraska and Purdue.
? Corey Smith, wide receiver, Buchtel: Smith possesses the speed, runs crisp routes and has the ability to take over the game with his skills. He makes difficult receptions look easy, but can also make easy receptions look difficult. He has indicated a strong interest in attending Ohio State, but the decision may come down to where he and teammate Jarrod Wilson can play together.
? Se'Von Pittman, defensive end, Canton McKinley: A force on the McKinley defense, Pittman helps to cap off the list of top defensive ends in the area. He's big, 6-foot-4, fast (4.6 in the 40-yard dash) and can be dominating. So far, he has an offer from West Virginia, but other colleges have been sniffing around.
