2012 Elite Eight: #2 tOSU 77, #1 Syracuse 70 (Final!)

I pray to God that, should we get up by 10 or 12 points, the team doesn't start to coast and watch themselves in the mirror. I'm not sure that this team could pull themselves out of the ditch the way they did last night against Syracuse.

Wiscy played an almost perfect game and was unreal from the three point line but still lost. Ohio State can't take a ten minute break from the game and expect to come back and win it in the final ten.
Definitely not defensively. Syracuse was getting easy layups all night long - it was almost too easy.

You can tell that if you deny them that, they're definitely beatable.

They also never passed to whoever was under the hoop and there were numerous times they could have capitalized on that. 'Cuse never guarded the key against Wiscy.

I admit to not being an expert of basketball in terms of X's and O's...is it a must that we hit 3 point shots tomorrow against the zone? Also, I just hope we don't get into any type of foul trouble...'Cuse might be the deepest team in the tournament and they can afford to foul...we can't.

They'll help for sure, but as Bill Lucas said, the high/low game between Thomas and Sully can be the key to scoring against the zone. There's a hole in the zone just inside the top of the FT line. Kansas State was able to consistently pass the ball into that spot, but they didn't have the guy that could make quick decisions to shoot or pass, and the guy on the low block didn't have the hands to catch and finish. I expect DT to be the guy sliding into that hole at the top of the key to receive a pass, and then he'll either take a quick shot or look to pass to Sully inside.

The good news for tOSU is that either of those guys can make the 15-foot shot, and they are also both very good at snagging passes and finishing inside.

Once that's established as an effective combination, Syracuse will pack in their zone even more - that's when the 3-point shots may be needed to make them pay for that.

Thanks, makes sense. It seemed Bucky had the 10-15 footer all day but they would get hesitant and kick it out. I agree though...Buford (when on) can shoot that quickly and efficiently, DT can damn near lean in with a hook from that distance, and Craft has a nice pull-up jumper from that range. It will be interesting to see how they handle it.

If it comes down to 3's, I think Buford better be ready to step up. I think Craft and DT's 3 point shooting can't go on much longer as high as it's been, and Lenzelle is not a go-to guy from behind the arc. Could be wrong but I think Buford is going to have to step it up this game with jump shots and 3's at critical times.

I'd like to put out a missing persons report for a William Buford. He wears #44 and was last seen about two and half weeks ago hitting the game winner against Michigan St. If you see him please tell Mr. Buford that we request his big game play today against Syracuse.

Is it bad of me that I don't want to mess with what's working.

Let Thomas, Sully, and Craft have their field days.

Just to clarify, we are looking for Willie "THE BEAST" Buford, not the other one.

If Jim Boeheim is as clueless as he pretends to be whenever his program is in trouble this should be a walk in the park. :roll1:

Fuck Syracuse. They're standing in our way. Go Bucks! :osu:
