IIRC UFM commented on it just before or after half time. I haven't seen a replay either but I know I had the thought that he "didn't recruit these guys to watch".

I thought Miami's QB performed very well yesterday. He got rid of the ball quickly and accurately which nullified any Ohio State pass rush from the front four or otherwise for most of the game.

Even when Ohio State got a little bit more pressure on him later in the game he was still getting the ball to his receivers with Buckeye defenders hanging all over him. Overall I was very impressed with his performance and think that we should give credit where credit is due rather than getting too worried about the defense.

Also, -1 yards rushing.

Regarding the apparently anemic pass rush, I believe Coach Meyer said something to the effect that our front was playing a "contain" mode rather than aggressive rush mode. Spence and Washington still got through for sacks, so I'm not real worried. Yet.

Supposedly, we started out in "contain" because the coaches wanted to "stress" the defense some because they thought they needed the work?
Then the coaches set the D line free to attack and got better results the rest of the game. :tongue2: Giving up 10 points is not bad for an afternoons work. And they will get better!

I would love to never see another 3 man rush by an Ohio State team! I hate them with a passion reserved for only Desmond Howard! :pissed:

I agree about the 3 man, zone blitz-without the blitz, rush. The other thing I wanted to see a lot more of was man to man coverage but it didnt happen very much if at all. I thought we had some excellent defensive backs but we hardly ever get up in the receivers' face and make them change their timing and routes. With a great QB, like Dysart, the zone allows him a lot more time to see the routes and keep the defense off of him. The fact that we only gave up 10 points now that I look back is pretty great. It could have gone differently though if they hung on to some of the passes.

Many coaches also work out the kinks/responsibilities in base prior to getting cute. I'm sure we'll see the whole system worked in the weeks leading upto the MSU game.

I know Cal lost yesterday, but i'm curious to see how our secondary does in a few weeks against their passing attack.

This was my thought as well. We were playing easily 10 yards off the receiver which allowed Dysart to get the ball out quickly on 5-10 yd routes and really not give the line any chance to get there. I would have loved to see us up in the receivers faces and jamming them as they came off the line. This would have thrown off the rhythm and timing of these plays.

But hey 10 points, I will take that all year long....

Based on what we've heard from the DBs, we're not likely to see this. I think the staff has made it clear that press coverage is not something they like to do routinely.
