2012 Defense Discussion

The problem on the defensive side of the field IMO lies in the middle of the field. Our middle LB's seem slow and out of place. Our safeties seem more content on making a big hit and playing the ball than stopping a massive gain.

Coaching can only take you so far....but the offense flat out sucked last year.... A new staff came in and turned it around quick....with mostly the same players. Our defense has regressed[ and our staff has retained some previous regime members. It's time to seriously look at a change on D. It's not working out. I just hope Meyer does it quickly.

Where does the blame lie? I think its scheme because we have some very good players. Roby,Simon,Hankins,Goebel,Bryant,Shazier,Howard and OJ are all playing fine. I don't think Barnett is terrible and I'm not going to put it all on Storm or Boren.

How many of those guys you mentioned are selected in the draft? We are going to assume because they play at Ohio state that they will all be selected and go high....which will not be the case. Shazier is young and will be but what other linebacker? We are having to play our fullback there. Our safeties? No....Robby has a chance but Howard? Maybe a late rounder....we got big hank who should be drafted well but what else? Simon? Ultimate overachiever who will get selected but not like we think he will. Bennett still looks a step slow from injury and Nate Williams was not out there. Bucks have had done crap luck with major injuries, that depleted that linebacker unit over the course of 3 years. Bucks got to recruit better flat out. Too many swings and misses on that side of the ball

We have 3 players that would go high round this year. Howard could be a late round pick and Shazier could be a mid-high round pick in the future. Bryant I think is a late round next year.

Yup. None of last year would of dreamed of watching this offense put 63 and 52 up on anyone. No excuse whatsoever for this defense to look this bad.

Comparing this year's performances with last year's just reminds me how much of a fucking magician Jim Heacock is. For all of the shit they got last year for not being a typical OSU defense, they were still 19th in yards and 27th in points. This D isn't even close.

Weren't they something like 20th in total defense? Which is freaking amazing considering out offense was nearly last in almost every stat.

I personally think Bryant is a good player. He makes mistakes but he has also made a lot of really good plays. Hasn't he graded out as MVP a couple times this season?

He makes way too mistakes to play in the NFL as a safety, IMO. Special Teams player I can see.
