Funny how sometimes the team that loses a player to a red actually plays better, as Sweden did today in getting a late winner to take third place, 2-1.

I'm just sorry Uruguay didn't make it.

Five North Korean players test positive

FRANKFURT, Germany -- Five North Korea players have tested positive for steroids at the women's World Cup, soccer's biggest doping scandal at a major tournament in 17 years.
.
.
.
FIFA has already met with a North Korean delegation and heard arguments that the steroids were accidentally taken with traditional Chinese medicines based on musk deer glands to treat players who had been struck by lightning on June 8 during a training camp in North Korea.

Entire article: http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/ne...orld-cup-five-north-koreans-positive-steroids

:slappy:Bonds and Clemens should have thought of that one.

Anybody with the balls to mention musk deer glands and lightning strikes in an explanation of steroid use deserves a pass.

Didn't "The Leader" (Kim Jong Il) say he shot like -18 for a round or something? That takes balls too.

I could be low on that score too (it was something crazy).

Sonofabitch.

Was busy today, recorded it, and just watched the whole thing. Thought we had it won twice but it was Japan's year. Credit to them, no one even thought about them winning it. They beat the two time champs in their backyard, they beat the team that beat us, and they beat us to win it.

They deserve the Cup.

One thing: Honestly had to look up the elevation of Frankfurt when Julie Foudy said "30,000 Feet" during the broadcast (when describing the sound).

Frankfurt is 367 feet above sea level.

Foudy messed up the extra time -- again thinking it was over at 115 -- but Ian Darke caught it this time and joked about it.

Hey, could be worse. I remember when ESPN was at commercial during an Italy goal in 1990 (semifinals).
