2011 US Open at Congressional

Why didn't I toss some vCash on Rory McIlroy? :smash:

He's got an 8-shot lead, and about a 10-foot putt for eagle at #16.

Some guys haven't teed off yet today, but he's going to have a huge lead going into the weekend.

He's good enough to be a factor in keeping Tiger from getting to 18 majors, and he could get into double-digits himself, which would put him among the all-time greats of the game.

I know he hasn't won one yet, but yep I said it. Good enough to win 10 majors.

Edit - he made a birdie, which puts him at -12, tying the record for most strokes under par at any point in the history of the US Open. Getting to -10 in 26 holes was another record.

Well, set up a bet after the cut, then throw a coule hundred mill on him and watch him implode like Greg Normna at Augusta.

McIlroy had his own implosion on Sunday at Augusta a couple of months ago. He put the ball next to a house that I'd never seen in decades of watching that tournament.

But I don't think it's going to happen again.

I think he choked pretty good at the '10 PGA too...

Maybe not that bad...

So, we'll see.

(I've got nothing against the kid, btw, he's young, and is probably "good enough" to win 10 majors... we'll see if he laerns to be a finisher too)

Rory's now at -14, 8 strokes ahead of Yang, who will join him in the last group tomorrow.

199 is a US Open record through 3 rounds, and -14 extends his own record for lowest score to par at any point in a US Open.

Impressive stuff for a 22-year old.

3 amazing rounds of golf and no one I recognize in sight. But then wasn't it just two years ago that the leaders teed off 7 to 8 strokes up on the field and both lost the lead by the 9th hole.

In other news, Pholdin' Phil looked like he was just out for a walk in the park today.

Anyone see Sergio's rising low cut out of rough under a low hanging pine that hit the pin?
he always pulls off one miraculous shot in every major tournament but that's about it for him.

that's one thing you can never say about Tiger. No matter how bad he was playing he played the full 72 like it meant something.

Damn, that was impressive. It's not often you see a goler absolutely blow away the field at a major championship like that.

Tiger and Phil are old news to me. I hope McIlroy builds on this and becomes one of the next true superstars.

I am amazed at how quickly Johnny Miller and others are to anoint Rory as the second coming of Nicklaus and Woods. Give me a break, the kid has won one major. Was it an amazing performance, yes, it was amazing. That still doesn't mean he is going to win boat loads of them. Can you say whatever happened to Trevor Immelman and Geoff Olgilvy.

As for Phil, he had arguably one bad nine holes of golf (back nine on Saturday) and a couple of additional bad holes. Otherwise, he is right there with the pack. My issue with Phil, is that he needs to quit over thinking these tournaments and just go play them. Fuck the two iron, just hit your driver or three wood man. And for gods sake, work on your fucking putting. If Phil putted like he did when he was younger he would be just fine.

My man to watch is Kuchar....

Kuchar is already 32 and while he is playing well, I'm not sure he will break through at one of the majors. I would replace him with Jason Day.

I think there's reason to believe that Rory could be the next great golfer. He's dominated 7 of the 8 rounds of major tournament golf this year and he put up a similar type of round in the first round of the British Open last year.

Its too early to annoint him, but its certainly not too early to think about the possibilities. He could be special.
