Big House to get 4,000 square foot videoboards

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Big House is getting bigger TVs.

The University of Michigan announced Tuesday that TS Sports/Lighthouse will install a pair of LED video displays -- measuring about 4,000 square feet each -- in its football stadium by August.

The Texas-based company will also put center-hung videoboards in Crisler and Yost Arena for the basketball and hockey programs.

Michigan Stadium's videoboards will be 47 feet high and 85 feet wide, making them about 40 percent larger than the previous ones installed in 1998.

The athletic department has budgeted $20 million for the videoboards in the three venues and the conversion of its production studio.

Cont'd ...

List of biggest CFB video boards
Forgot PennSt doesn't have a video scoreboard.
I find it interesting that a school like Indiana has such a new / nice / big board, especially compared to schools with larger stadiums and larger followings.

Though it's understandable against the SEC, with their southern speed videotrons, overall it doesn't look like the B10 stacks up well against several other conferences. We suffer from a jumbotron inadequacy, even against the vaunted Big East.

I don't think USF really counts.......they're an NFL stadium. MSU and TT's boards are 27x21.....so I don't know if that counts as a "big" board.

Not that I want to claim OSU as the first school to have a big board or anything.....I just went through the same thought process you did and then looked at the size/year comparison.

True, but Arkansas put up a board 400 sq ft bigger in 2000...usually this sort of stuff takes several years of planning. Bottom line, I like to thump my chest about tOSU as much as anyone, but I doubt that we were the "tend-setters" in big scoreboards in college football. I'd bet a lot of schools had big scoreboards already in the planning phase when we put ours up.

1968 TSUN game?

Yes,

1968_game_header.jpg

The 8-0 Buckeyes met the Michigan Wolverines on November 23, 1968, in front of what was, at the time, the largest crowd to ever fill Ohio Stadium (85,371). Ohio State was ranked number 1; Michigan was ranked number 4. Michigan scored first to lead 7-0 in the first quarter. Ohio State followed with its own touchdown. Both teams scored at the end of the half, and the score at halftime was 21-14 for Ohio State.
