2011 tOSU Football Discussion

You do realize that you can move players around despite where they are listed on the depth chart, right?

The bottom line is getting your best players on the field. Hall, Norwell, and Shugarts are three of the best lineman, so you play two of them at guard and move them back to tackle if needed.
normally id agree, but to me line play is like basketball. the five best guys dont make the best team. roles and synergies make great lines. that being said id take five studs over five dogs...

in addition to Rod Smith, others impressing in bowl practice....

Safety Jermale Hines mentioned first-year cornerback Bradley Roby as someone who has impressed him, while Torrence also threw out linebackers Dorian Bell and Storm Klein and receiver Chris Fields of Harvey High School as guys making the most of their shots. Tressel mentioned a nice catch Tuesday by receiver T.Y. Williams of Shaw High.

Good to see Fields and TY Williams getting positive comments. I'm real interested in seeing how the competition for playing time goes there. Posey and Brown would seem to be the only locks. After that you've got Fields and the 5 Freshmen(Williams, James Louis, Verlon Reed, Evan Spencer and Devin Smith). Not sure whatever happened to James Jackson, I guess he could be in the mix as well.

I really think Ty Williams is gonna make some noise in 11. The dude's a freak of nature. I'm really excited about him.

The Columbus Dispatch

Terrelle Pryor, junior quarterback

Pryor is 30-4 as a starter and has thrown for 5,956 career yards, fifth most in school history, and 55 touchdowns, third most. He needs 18 yards to pass Cornelius Greene (2,066) as the school's all-time leading QB rusher.

Replacements: Junior Joe Bauserman has seen limited time as a backup the past two seasons. Also in the mix are redshirt freshman Kenny Guiton, freshman Taylor Graham and touted recruit Braxton Miller, who plans to enroll in January.
Daniel Herron, junior running back

Herron has rushed for 1,068 yards and 15 TDs this season; he has scored at least one TD in his past 11 games.

Replacements: Sophomore Jordan Hall, the primary punt returner this year; redshirt freshman Jaamal Berry, the kickoff returner; and freshmen Carlos Hyde and Rod Smith were going to challenge for time, regardless.
DeVier Posey, junior wide receiver

Posey is second on the team in catches this year (50) with six TDs. He starred in last year's Rose Bowl win.

Replacements: The next-most experienced WR is freshman Corey "Philly" Brown, who has seven catches this season. Redshirt freshman Chris Fields and sophomore James Jackson will have to grow up quickly, and under a new coach - WR coach Darrell Hazell is headed to Kent State as head coach.
Mike Adams, junior left tackle

Adams was named first-team all-Big Ten by the league's coaches this season.

Replacements: Sophomore Marcus Hall will be back from a redshirt season. Freshman Andrew Norwell played well in spot duty this season.
Solomon Thomas, junior defensive end

Thomas has been a primary backup the past two seasons.

Replacements: Nathan Williams is expected to return and start. Redshirt freshman Melvin Fellows, freshmen J.T Moore and David Durham and highly ranked recruits Steve Miller and Kenny Hayes will push for playing time.

Here's how Ohio State will try to replace suspended players next season
Published: Thursday, December 23, 2010
By Doug Lesmerises, The Plain Dealer

Columbus -- The prospect of a suspension lasting through as many as the first five games of the 2011 regular season certainly changed the discussion about the NFL futures of the Ohio State juniors.

Quarterback Terrelle Pryor, running back Dan Herron, left tackle Mike Adams and receiver DeVier Posey could be more likely to leave school now and even a player like center Mike Brewster, who was not involved in the suspensions at all, might weight his options differently if a lot of juniors teammates leave. Even if the juniors in question stay, the Buckeyes will need to find solutions for at least a few games. Here's how they'll do it.

Quarterback

Joe Bauserman, Pryor's current backup, will be a senior next year, but he may not be the favorite in a quarterback competition. Incoming freshman Braxton Miller is the No. 2 quarterback recruit in the country according to Rivals.com and comes from a higher-level high school program than Pryor did. He looks more ready to step in as a freshman, and remember that Pryor took the job from senior Todd Boeckman after three weeks despite how raw he was. Current No. 3 quarterback Kenny Guiton could have a real shot at the job as well, while Taylor Graham, who redshirted this season, would be the darkhorse. Even if someone like Bauserman is technically the starter in the opener against Akron, it's almost certain that Miller will see the field. And he could see it for every snap.

Running back

There are a lot of holes to fill next year. A lot of seniors walk out the door, and obviously there are holes to fill with the suspensions. This is another reason I love JT, instead of being interested in style points, he gets his subs in and gets them reps. Even though we lose a bunch of starters, there is usually more experience returning than would meet the eye. :oh:

Any early speculation on who the captains are for next season? I know guys can go pro but here is what I think:
Tyler Moeller
Michael Brewster
Nathan Williams
*Changes weekly just like in 2009
I think that Pryor gets a team captain if he stays. Tressel loves the redemption song. Nathan Williams, Michael Brewster and Moeller make a lot of sense, add in Pryor. The 2011 Buckeyes will be young at many positions so I wonder if we see a captain from the rising-junior ranks as well: Howard? Zach Boren?
