2011 Iditarod, who will finish first and second?

Baker has reached Unalakleet. Those outside the top-5 are now very unlikely to win. These standings are based on when everybody laft Kaltag.

It's getting interesting. Two guys that were over 3 hours behind Baker are trying to catch him by not resting. Right now he has no idea how far they are behind him, but they're less than an hour behind and they know it. There's still about 2 days of racing left.

What is this...I don't even?

It's a sled dog race in Alaska, which commemorates a heroic trip to deliver diptheria serum to Nome in 1925. The dog named Balto was a leader on that team.

The race takes about 9 days, and we keep the betting open until the second day of the race. After that, it can be tracked casually, looking for updates once or twice a day, or it can be followed more avidly.

The front five have left Koyuk. They are 96 miles between Koyuk and White Mountain, where everybody has to take a mandatory 8-hour rest stop. So I expect the top-5 to try to run the 96 miles without a rest. The White Mtn stop is done so that mushers desperate to win won't over-run their dog teams. After the stop at White Mountain, it's 77 files to the finish line at Nome. Somebody has a chance if they're within an hour of the leader at White Mountain.

Thanks for the link, that reference went over my head.

In the past, the Iditardod threads have been more active - I was late getting it started this year, so less people had an opportunity to make their desperate need for vGambling as obvious as mine.

They had the exact same time over the last leg, so it will be tough for Smyth to run Baker down, but it's possible to gain almost an hour over a 77-mile stretch, which should take between 10 and 12 hours.

It should be over in the next hour, so as usual, this bet is settled just in time to toss all the vCash at the NCAA Tournament bets.

Baker reached the checkpoint at Safety an hour and 25 minutes ahead of Smyth. That's only 22 miles from the finish line, so it would take a total disaster for Baker to be caught.

Thankfully then I missed the betting deadline by 30 minutes or I would have taken a bath on this. But also thankfully... BB took a bath on this bet

I lost v$5 Billion on this. Despite not betting a dime on 3 favorites that ended up scratching. :smash:

I'm blaming you for saying (in last year's thread) that a 1-2 finish would have been a better bet because of Mackey's dominance. :wink2:
