COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State Buckeyes are returning to the Big Ten Conference Tournament. Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. at Huntington Park the Buckeyes, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, will take on No. 5 seed Minnesota in a game that will kick off the 2011 conference tournament. Following this game, No. 3 seed Purdue and No. 6 seed Penn State will meet in a 3:35 p.m. scheduled start. The Buckeyes qualified for the Big Ten Tournament in coach Greg Beals' initial season as coach by winning a three-game series at Minnesota over the weekend. After dropping the opener, 3-2, the Buckeyes came back to win games two and three by scores of 5-1 and 3-0, respectively, to position the Scarlet and Gray in fourth place with a 13-11 mark and a 25-25 overall record. The losses dropped the Golden Gophers' records to 13-11 and 22-22, respectively.

Looks like a strong finish, taking Minny in the finals.....by the look of the OSU record, either an automatic bid, or nada. Realize a new coach and all, but it looked to me like there was plenty of talent in the cupboard, but looks like underachieving.....any thoughts as to why? Baseball isn't a game that drastically changes when coaches do, so I'd be interested in any thoughts. BigTen channel didn't cover OSU baseball as much. Reruns of the 'B10 greatest' seem to take precidence.....appreciate it.

Bucks beat Minnesota 5-3, will face Illinois at 7pm tomorrow at Huntington Park. The way McKinney and Greve are pitching, if the Bucks can stay out of the loser's bracket tomorrow they have a great shot. McKinney pitched great against Illinois this year. I like our chances.

Agree with Cleve. The Bucks scored 5 runs in the 8th inning for the win.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State came from behind with a five-run eighth inning to defeat Minnesota, 5-3, in the first game of the Big Ten tournament Wednesday afternoon at Huntington Park. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 26-25 on the season and will play at either 3:30 p.m. or 7:05 p.m. Thursday against either Illinois or Michigan State.
The Buckeyes had the first chance of the game in the bottom of the first when they rallied with two down to put runners at first and third after a Ryan Cypret walk and a single through the right side by Josh Dezse but Minnesota starter T.J. Oakes was able to strike out Matt Streng to end the Ohio State threat.
Both Oakes and Ohio State starter Drew Rucinski cruised through the following two innings until Minnesota was able to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Justin Gominsky singled with one out, stole second and advanced to third on a single up the middle by Nick O'Shea. The Buckeyes then looked to be out of the inning when Dan Olinger hit what looked to be a double play ball to short but it was ruled that Dezse pulled his foot off first base, allowing the run to score. Kyle Geason then doubled to left to put runners on second and third with two down but Rucinski was able to strike out Troy Larson to limit the damage to one run.
In the meantime, Oakes retired 10 consecutive Buckeyes before a leadoff single in the fifth by David Corna.

COLUMBUS, Ohio- Two years ago in the Big Ten Tournament at Huntington Park Ohio State and Illinois played in an electric atmosphere under the lights, with nearly 5,000 fans on hand to enjoy the action at one of the finest minor league ball parks around. College baseball fans will have a chance to do it again Thursday night. That's because Ohio State's 5-3 come-from-behind win over Minnesota in the first game of the Big Ten Tournament Wednesday has propelled the Buckeyes into an exciting 7:05 p.m. start time against Illinois Thursday at Huntington Park. The Illini, by virtue of its regular season co-championship and No. 1 seed in the tournament, had a bye Wednesday.
The game will cap a busy three-game day at the Big Ten tournament. Penn State and Minnesota will meet in the first game Thursday at 12:05 p.m. Co-Big Ten champion Michigan State and Purdue will meet in the second game at 3:30 p.m. Then it's Ohio State's and Illinois' turn.
Tickets are only $10 ($7 for children and senior citizens) and one ticket is good for all three games.
There will be three more games played Friday and two on Saturday before the Big Ten crowns a 2011 tournament champion and the conference's representative to the NCAA Championships.

Didn't Columbus host the conference tourney last year? In most of the non-revenue sports the championships get rotated.
Columbus will be hosting it through 2012

Due to a facility conflict, the 2010 tournament will be held at Ohio State's Bill Davis Stadium.
"The Big Ten Conference is excited to return to the city of Columbus for its upcoming baseball tournaments," Big Ten Conference Commissioner James E. Delany said. "Last year's event provided a fantastic experience for our coaches, student-athletes and fans, and we look forward to growing the event in the next three years."
"We are thrilled that Columbus, Bill Davis Stadium and Huntington Park will host the Big Ten Baseball Tournament through 2012," Greater Columbus Sports Commission Executive Director Linda Shetina Logan said. "Our community thanks the Big Ten Conference, its schools and coaches for making this commitment to Columbus, and we will work to build an atmosphere for this tournament similar to the College World Series."
