2011 Arizona State Sun Devils Baseball

This is a bad year for ASU baseball. Sanctions came down from the NCAA and ASU is banned from this years postseason. Thanks you jack-ass Pat Murphy!!!!!!

As frustrating as that is, ASU should have another good team and play one of the toughest schedules in all of college baseball. Besides playing everyone in the Pac-10, ASU also has Auburn, Oklahoma, Cal State Fullerton, Kansas, UC Riverside, Long Beach State, New Mexico, Oral Roberts, BYU, Cal State Bakersfield, Northern Illinois and Delaware on the schedule. ASU lost 9 players including their 3 weekend starting pitchers to this years MLB draft so lots of available playing time for younger guys. ASU signed 18 new players for 2011 including Bobby Bonilla's son Brandon Bonilla.

No chance for a post season birth, so hopefully these kids can still play with a high intensity livel throughout the year.

tidbit from Rivals

Arizona State
The Sun Devils are almost starting from scratch this fall when it comes to their pitching staff. The Devils lost starting pitchers Seth Blair, Merrill Kelly and Jake Borup to the draft. They also are without closer Jordan Swagerty, who signed for $625,000 as a second-rounder to the Cardinals. In the field, the Devils must find a way to replace infielder Drew Maggi, who signed for $468,000 as a 15th-rounder to the Pirates. ASU also lost a pair of signees to the draft ? Taylor Lindsey and Travis Flores. Lindsey was a first supplemental pick to the Angels and signed for $873,000 and Flores was an 11th-round pick to the Rays and signed for $155,000. ASU also lost out on commitment Kevin Walter, who signed for $350,000 as a 20th-round pick to the Phillies. ASU likely will reload as it always does, but this draft hurts.

ASU has 56 games scheduled for 2011 and 37 of those games are against teams who were in the field of 64 in last years CWS.

ASU plays 4 #1 seeds from that tournament:
UCLA
Cal State Fullerton
Auburn
Oklahoma

ASU plays 3 #2 seeds
Washington State
Cal
Stanford

ASU plays 4 #3 seeds
New Mexico
Oregon
Oregon State
Arizona

ASU plays 1 #4 seed
Oral Roberts

At one point in the schedule, ASU will play 30 consecutive games against teams that were in last years field of 64. Should be a very tough year since most Pac-10 teams should be even better this year.

Brady Rogers (So.) 2.11 ERA last year in 22 appearances
Jake Barrett (So.) 3.41 ERA last year in 28 appearances
Mitchell Lambson (Jr.) 2.16 ERA last year in 39 appearances

ASU lost all 3 of last years weekend starters and our closer to the MLB so new guys will have to step up. New pitchers coming in:

6 True Freshman
