2010 Winter Olympics tidbits

I want to see some crazy bastard come out of the gates for the downhill on one of those fucking saucer sled death traps from my childhood.

No kidding. I can also understand if it's taking place halfway around the world. Nobody would want to watch this stuff live at 4AM. It' in the Pacific Fucking Time Zone this time though! Show it live. Show it on fucking Versus. Stream it online. No wonder NBC is going to lose money hand over fist on this.

NBC has (at least) five channels they can use and they are showing:

NBC - taped delay skiing
USA - Westminster Kennel Club
Bravo - Real Housewives of Skanksville, USA
CNBC - some garbage about the SI Swimsuit edition
MSNBC - Countdown

Not one fucking live event. It's 5:30 out there for god's sake. Show us live athletics! :pissed:

Men's downhill, in prime time.... gosh, I don't know why they'd opt to do that rather than show it live...

Do both if primetime is such a big deal.

I guess those Monk reruns on USA bring in too much revenue to show an event that you paid $2.2 billion for the broadcast rights to.

No Bob, we're not taking our first look at Snowboard Cross. Some of us watched the prelims this afternoon and then found out who won when their fiancee blabbed the results, thinking that NBC had the decency to broadcast the part where somebody wins LIVE.

I didnt mean to single out ESPN specifically, but even Yahoo has it on their front page (and thats my homepage), and I did see it on ESPN.com, but I wasnt going on there for olympic results, I just wanted to see what was going on in sports.
you didn't think you were going to see Olympics coverage when you went to a sports page website?

I have a question:

Has a Canadian athlete ever won an Olympic gold medal in and Olympics held in their own country?

Just curious.

No, they were shut out in their previous 2 olympics on Canadian soil.
What? You would think that this is something they would mention a minimum of every five minutes. How could NBC be so negligent with such a valuable nugget?

There's only one thing that rivals NHL playoffs for me. The Olympic hockey tournament. Come on, NBC. You're awful lately.

I really don't give a shit about hockey - but I love watching Olympic hockey. This is a shortsighted move in their part. Sure you can get some chicks to actually watch your network one night if you show ice dancing, but NBC presumably has some NHL hockey to show long after these Olympics are over. If they actually promote Olympic hockey, people like me might become interested enough to watch when this is over.

The NHL should be outraged.

Put ice dancing on Bravo. It's a joke and a sham. I love the Winter Olympics. I'm going out of my way today to watch cross-country skiing. The figure skating is the one thing I won't watch and can't stand.

I'd rather watch the hockey on MSNBC and get to see the whole game than have it on NBC and their multiple event, cluster-fuck coverage.

TWC Columbus has MSNBC in HD. I assume that just about every other carrier does as well.

what is even funnier is that the Russia/Czech Republic game is getting fully shown on NBC or so they are claiming.

That's ok, I get to see Datsyuk play :banger:
