2010 TSUN offseason arguments & shenanigans

This was posted on mgoblue blog before being taken down:
He is of the opinion Rodriguez is a total snake in the grass, and all of buckeye nation is certain he will be gone at years end. He also said he knows "for a fact" that Rich Rodriguez offered up his wife to recruits if they would sign with Michigan. When I told him that there is no way in hell that ANY coach ANYWHERE who coaches ANY sport would do that, he said he has it on good authority, and that I should trust him. At this point I hate this person, and do not trust him, or his really drunk wife.

Well then....that explains the recent poor recruiting, doesn't it?

nooooooooo. UConn's record would be worse if UConn were in the Big Ten. According to that guy, UConn isn't any good, they just had a good record because they were in the Big East.

Sorry, I wasn't clear....UConn's record in the Big Ten would have been better than scUM's Big Ten record...because UConn was better than scUM, not that UConn was better than most Big Ten teams. Of course, having a better Big Ten record than scUM is not exactly a high bar over which to soar!

Chatter on the interwebs about a UM vs Bama matchup in 2012. The reaction?

Licking their chops with anticipation because of how stacked UM will be. Seriously, the overwhelming majority are giddy with the opportunity to slay bama.
Yeah baby. We'll beat em like we did in the 2000 Orange Bowl. Hopefully it's not that close.
We need RR as our coach if this game happens.
 No, you need someone who will actually recruit LBs before that game arrives.
I like this. If you want to be the best you have to play and beat the best. We should be loaded in 2012.
This is really exciting-- as long as RR is still around. I would hate to have to play them with a new coach and likely very different scheme from what these kids were recruited to play. Remaining optimistic-- Go Blue! Michigan 27, Bama 24.

BMalone~

I agree with 110%....BUT....personally, I'd rather not do this one.

The personnel in this one says that we SHOULD be loaded. Fine. But by the same token, we also look to have a very tangible chance at 12-0 with a BCS game next to our names. I would shy away from risking that. I am not saying that we'd lose, but why even mess with that.

In regard to non-conference, my feeling is...and has always been...that I favor playing a big name team, but a team that's a middle of the pack in their conference. If you're gonna look at th SEC...look at Arkansas, Ole Miss, Tennessee, or something like that. Even if we win versus a top opponent, that leaves us overly tested and maybe hung-over versus notre dame the next week and I refuse to lose to those pricks. Even if it means beating Bama.

The money is GREAT. The tv exposure is even GREATER. But self-sabotaging our 12-0 season is concerning.
Oh, please let this be true and, moreover, please let Rich Rodriguez still be your head coach (and in the 5th year with his system). We will be absolutely loaded and ready for bear...
I have to think that if Michigan is playing in this big, national game that it should tell you all you need to know about Brandon and Rich Rod. I can't see agreeing to play in this game if they are going to be getting rid of Rich Rod, as a team under a new coach a year prior would be an awful team to put on the national spotlight and target recruits. Perhaps I am looking at this wrong, but for me, a fan of Rodriguez the agreement of this game should be as good as a contract extension, or at least the belief that he will be the guy to turn this team around by 2012.
Question for anyone with an opinion but does this say anything about how db feels about the near future. I don't think I'm going out on a limb here by saying that if rr is gone were gonna get smoked in this matchup given all that would take place if rr gets the axe. I've never felt the db is really in rr's corner but I can't see making this happen if he doesn't believe we will have a seasoned, " ready for prime time" team. Any thoughts ?
We should be loaded in 2012 and able to compete with them...will be a great recruiting tool as well, great exposure.

I do.

The 2011 team is going to be stacked, regardless of who is coaching them. The 2012 team will feature either a senior QB with four years of field experience or a 3rd year Devin Gardner in the starting spot. That position alone means we're talking about a very different story than a team led by a freshman Steven Threet and walk-on Nick Sheridan. We're also looking at a lot of young talent circa 2010 that has by now matured. Unless you want to predict that we get a whole bunch of kids transferring out of the program (you always get a couple, but I'm talking big numbers here,) then I don't think you can just assume we're going to be awful under any coach other than RR.

The transition pains we've felt the past couple years have been exceptional. It is not normal, what we've gone through with the former coaches, the athletic department, some of the boosters/alums, the local media, the "family values" issues, the sudden departure of half the roster to the NFL, etc etc. We don't need to take it as a given that a new coach would need four or five years to get competitive and that we'd be starting from scratch in 2011.

This is not an argument for or against Rodriguez, either - I'm merely saying that the next coach won't face the same perfect storm of obstacles right off the bat, and a good coach without those obstacles can win games early. We should be very good in 2012 with or without Rodriguez.
Plus, unless we have a huge 2010 or 2011 this could be a great catapult game for the program. Assuming Bama stays strong and avoids its once a decade probationary period a win over them would be huge in the pundits eyes and give the Big Ten a huge boost in stature. We have much more to gain than to lose in this match-up, IMO (based upon national perception as of today).
Just might be Kickoff Game between

The two teams that won the last three BCS championships...
:slappy:
Im not afraid of Alabama. If Colt doesnt get hurt, how bad does Texas beat them last year? Colt played 1 series and just took them straight down the field. So to me lets get it on. By then we will have senior leadership and depth to go with it.

Also to me this is Dave Branden giving RR a huge vote of confidence. Why schedule a game like this, while thinking your going to be changing coaches in a year or two? You schedule this game knowing that the program is going to be stable and ready for this kind of game. JMO
2012 MICHIGAN 41 alabama 17 GO BLUE
Michigan owns the SEC....bring on Bama!
