2010 TSUN offseason arguments & shenanigans

The ideal candidate would need to be:

1. A "Michigan Man".
2. Well educated.
3. Able to assist the program along in its current trajectory.

I like how these new fans of theirs refer to the past as if "now" is better than "then" (the Carr days).

In the Carr days: 1) scUM was ranked and regarded highly every week, 2) won Big Ten championships, 3) not only beat Ohio State... had a winning record against OSU until Tressel crashed the party, 4) recruited nationally (i.e.- highly ranked prospects all over the country), 5) played defense.

Now: None of the above.

Wow - 17-18 on the SAT, which is out of 2400 really is low. Makes me think Wyld has not taken either the SAT or ACT.

Might be showing my age here, but is the SAT out of 2400 now? Is there a third section? Or did you double 800 and get 2400 using some magical math?

Wow, I just wiwipedia-ed it, and found that you're right! Well, that makes my score sound a lot worse than it did way back in 1990. Oh well.

Screw Michigan. I miss Carr. That was the best of this entire situation. Michigan was competitive, but still lost. It made the wins matter more somehow. I watched the 2006 game on BTN last night and DAMN!!! WHAT A FOOTBALL GAME!

Probably meant the ACT, which is out of 36.

FWIW I'm pretty sure the national average is a 21...

Bob Ross and Thomas Kinkade will surely be offended if you neglect to mention that the kind doctor was also an exquisitely sensitive artiste.

edit: Photo links got broken, but if you have the stomach for it, the paintings are on the frontline link.

For further insight, you can read the good doctor's musings about his, uh, art.

"Let me be the first pessimist to state that there is no chance he is going to come to Michigan. I'm willing to settle for his not going to UOS. I hope I'm not being overly optimistic about that."

I like UM's chances better then SC, and he is a verbal to them. SC lost 2 more to transfer, 1 to your team CB.. Last count I did was 59 on scholarship for SC, so that takes it down to 57 and fall isn't here yet. Lets see how SC does with 60 some on the roster and adding a max of 15 for the next 3 years after each year of losing a senior class.

Strangely enough, no swooning over his hair. That might just be a gbw thing, though...
"However, he also had the highest TD rate in the group and his YPA was third highest in the group."

What a deceptive and convenient statistic. He had all 2 of his TD throws against Delaware State. Let's look at QB performances in that game, shall we?

3-4 85 yds 21.2 ypa | 3-3 54 yds 18.0 ypa | 2-2 39 yds 19.5 ypa | 7-9 88 yds 9.8 ypa

Who were those QBs? Shoelace, Cone, Tate & Sheridan in that order.

Shoelace's B10 numbers: 9-19 att 85 yds 4.4 ypa 0 td 2 int

Denard has a lot of talent and will do some nice things this year, but this is just blatant spin.

MISLEADING?
Did you take out Flash's statistics from the scrimmage against Baby Seal U?

The comparisons of Flash's numbers to anyone else is really misleading if you leave in his gaugy gimme's against the Baby Seals. Given his very, very low number of throws and total plays, a great many came against BSU (Not THAT BSU), so that scrimmage completely throws off the meaning of his statistics. I doubt most QBs in D-I get to play opponents as bad as BSU (NTBSU), but even if they do, one such game gets watered down over a 10- to 12-game season against normal opponents. Flash's stats are heavily weighted by his performance against BSU (NTBSU), so it makes him look way better than he actually performed against normal opponents.

Just my two cents.

Adding some stats:

Only 4 of Flash's 31 attempts (13%) came against Delaware State, but those 4 attempts counted for 85 of his 188 passing yards (45%) and both passing TDs (100%). Take those out, and his numbers are 11 for 27, 103 yards, 0 TD, 4 int.

Now that's a tiny sample size, so it's dangerous to infer too much from it, but 41% completions, 0% TD, 3.8 YPA, and 15% int are even below Sheridan-esque. All these numbers except completion percentage would be the worst in every category on the original list of young starters by a mile, and completion percentage is close.
edit: these guys already hit on that subject
Reality is DRob completed less than 50% of his passes his Sr. year in HS. He may become an adequate passer, but until he proves he can against real competion in a real game I'll stick with Tate. Denard is a superior threat running the ball yet until he is a passing threat he'll be facing a D loading up the box.

The 7% of his touches resulting in TD's is really skewed because of who he had them against. Didn't almost half of them come against Deleware State? Both of his passing TDs in that game would have been picks as they were late and the WR had to wait for the ball. I'm just trying to be realistic here. DRob showed tremendous improvement in the spring game going against a totally overmatched D (think how scared you would have been last year going into a real game without BG, DW, and Stevie then take away the rest of the starters).

this is one of the most retarded things ive ever read

of course Denards "TD rate" is going to be high....he only freaking attempted 31 passes....

his longest runs came against EMU and West Michigan, his longest run in Big 10 play was 23 yards

his average YPC during big 10 play was 3.1

in big 10 play his average yards per pass attempt were 4.5....

the Delaware State game HIGHLY inflated his stats, the stats mogblog is trying to make him look like a great QB

3 of his 7 TDs came vs Delaware State, a team that went 4-6 in the MEAC in 1-AA

25% of his total yards for the season came in that Delaware State game

53% of his total yards came in the East Michigan, Delaware State and EMU games

but of course, none of this is mentioned in the blow sunshine up everyones ass post on mgoblog

I love how in the comment section there are still people clamoring about Shoelaces spring game performance

he was in non contact against 2nd and 3rd team defenders (who arent very good anyway)

of course hes going to look "good"

Taurian Washington has looked good in spring for us the past few years, which has translated to nothing in the regular season

point being- someone should notify these idiots that spring games mean pretty much nothing, especially when you are in non contact against horrendous 2nd and 3rd team defenders
