2010 TSUN News offseason (football)

CBS - 60 yd Devin TD run

I expect Devin to be a good player for them, especially if he can actually introduce a downfield passing game to RR's offense, but:

a) That looks like the same old defense, out of position, poor pursuit angles, very weak foot speed... unable to track down an athletic but not overly speedy Devin.

b) It was a unit of backups however.[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2tpF2Xo1tI"][/ame]

The announcer said the defense, "Could touch but could not tackle."

Isn't that their normal defense?

I love the comments in that link. The thought that ANYBODY WOULD CHOOSE MSU OR NEBRASKA OVER UM is just unthinkable to them. IT MUST BE NEGATIVE RECRUITING! No, dumbass, these kids watch games on tv and they can see what a CF your program is right now. Can anybody blame a recruit for not wanting to stick their hand into that bear trap?

Can't believe I'm saying this, but in fairness to the clown who said that, he did preface it with "He wants to study engineering...". Is Michigan's engineering program that much better than MSU's and Nebraska's?

i love when those retards whine about "negative recruiting". they act like this is some new concept to the college football world and it's only done against Michigan. and of course, Michigan would never partake in anything so awful.

Just going off memory here, but I believe that M*ch*g*n has one of the top 10-15 undergrad programs for engineering. I would think he would be looking at Purdue or GaTech over MSU and Nebraska if the undergrad engineering education part was of high concern. Just sayin'.

I just looked at US News' ranking of college engineering programs and Michigan is top 10 in nearly every one listed for programs where the highest degree is a doctorate...Michigan State and Nebraska weren't even listed.

You need to keep in mind that negative recruiting against UM includes providing the recruit with unedited UM game tapes.

Oh I'm quite well aware of how good their engineering program is. Hell, I'm not ashamed to say that I would highly, highly recommend it to anyone who seriously wants to study engineering.

The question here is: does he think he's going to make more money playing football or getting an engineering degree? I have no idea if the only issue that he's considering is academics, but I would rather doubt that UM's great engineering program is going to persuade top flight football players to overlook the complete disaster they put on the field in the fall.

UM's engineering program is outstanding, but that's a loaded topic:

UM lovers will tell you: UM won't promise acceptance into their business school like other schools according to Tom Beaver.
UM haters will tell you: UM coaches will guarantee acceptance during recruiting to kids who aren't even currently qualified by NCAA standards

UM lovers will tell you: UM's engineering program is elite and is a huge edge for anyone interested in that field
UM haters will tell you: UM funnels almost every player into general studies and/or kinesiology (not the hard kind)

UM lovers will tell you: That during their best run in a long while, MSU was still only 9-4 & 6-7. Take that sparty
UM haters will tell you: That those sucky Sparty teams still beat a Michigan team with 5-10 times as much talent.

Cute caption on SI website:

Michigan settling on a running back?

While the Wolverines remain undecided, likely until the fall, on a QB, there's a chance the coaching staff is leaning toward a No. 1 back. While a committee approach seems likely, coach Rich Rodriguez and offensive coordinator Calvin Magee praised tailback Michael Cox this week.

"The endzone is that way!"

Michigan quarterbacks impressive in scrimmage highlights

Michigan held its second scrimmage of the spring Saturday and, judging from the highlights made available on mgoblue.com, the offense performed well.

The 115-play game pitted the offense against the defense in a modified scoring system. Tied at 53-53, the offense had the ball inside the 10-yard line during an ?overtime? period. That?s when quarterback Denard Robinson took the snap, ran around the left end, faked a jump pass, and ran in for a touchdown.

The quarterback stats announced on the video: Robinson had 12 carries for 105 yards and two rushing scores while also completing 15 of 20 passes for 82 yards and a touchdown. Forcier was 9-of-12 passing for 88 yards and the rushing touchdown. Gardner, an early enrollee, had 10 carries for 96 yards and two touchdowns and was 8-of-11 passing for 96 yards.
