2010 TSUN News offseason (football)

Well, reading some of the gbw recaps of their scrimmage, seems not much has changed defensively. One person went so far as to say the linebackers looked "horrible", safeties looked "extremely raw" and the cb's were "up and down". I've been reading a lot that they're gonna work hard to have the CBs "keep the game in front of them"...know what that means? Probably more 10 yard cushions at the LOS. :slappy::banger::slappy:

Well they did build Harbaugh a NEW PERSONAL shower/restroom/locker for 50K...I'd say Stanford is ready to ante up...Football is one of the few blackeyes in their athletic department...they win the overall athletic cup every year. Being great at football is the icing on the cake.

Northwestern isn't surging? Damn...let me see they have a coach in his 30's who might be the first coach in their programs history to take a team to 3 consecutive bowls...I'd call that surging...if they upgrade their facilities they will become an even bigger player.

MSU...hmmmmmm once again the last time MSU went to 3 straight bowl games was the 60's...when was the last time they beat Michigan 3 years in a row...damn that was the 60's too...they are winning the recruiting battles instate and are building depth...I'd say thats surging.

Iowa isn't surging...I dare ask when was the last time they won an Major Bowl game...yep 50+ years ago...Ferentz has built the program so they are competitive every year.

Wisconsin...I'd say being ranked top 10 isn't bad...25 years ago Wisconsin was on the same level with Indiana in football. Since Alvarez they have creeped up to 3rd or 4th best program in the conference...I'd say they are surging...Bielema is a young coach and IIRC he is 2 years removed from a 12-1 season.

Michigan is [censored]ed...they are down in a period when the conference is transitioning. They better pray they are on the same side of the alignment as MSU and OSU or they are [censored]ed. Look at their 2012 OOC schedule then add The teams on theor side of the alignment plus OSU and MSU...

Another thing to consider is they may have us go to 9 conference games...ouch...ouch...and ouch to Michigan.

If you don't think Pelini will be a thorn in their asses in Ohio recruiting your smoking crack...[censored] he may take a couple good one from us. Then add the fact theres a championship game...if they are not on our side we might play/beat them twice in the same season. It works both ways but our program is not in shambles.

50k once on a locker room is still a pretty small investment compared to what could amount to an additional mil per year.

The 4 teams that you mentioned are doing well but have they hit their ceiling? I say yes, they have. Michigan is still capable of doing better then all 4 of those teams. You can't overlook the fact that Michigan being down is a factor in those teams doing a bit better then usual, if Michigan is sitting in a position last year on par with Ohio State (where they are capable of being traditionally) then:

MSU likely doesn't make a bowl game, they were a 6-6 team in the regular season. Finished 6-7 on the year. That doesn't exactly scream surging anyway, that just screams that there are more bowl games for them to get put into then there were before.

Quite likely Iowa doesn't make it to a BCS game if Michigan could have taken their slot, the ACC matchup wasn't exactly the most difficult draw they could have had either. I don't see where its a marked difference between where Iowa was in 2002 for instance, they just had an easier bowl game this past year.

Another loss for Wiscy who are an 8-4 team that missed out on PSU

NW missed out on Michigan so it wouldn't have directly effected them much.

You get where i'm going with my point though

Pelini is an issue but it's still Michigan, they can find players somewhere.

Denard Robinson is your clear starter at quarterback. The quarterbacks weren?t live today, but Robinson still managed to carve up the second-team defense (running the first-team offense, of course) with his legs and his arm.

Carved up the second team D, eh? How about that first team D?

The secondary in general looked very suspect
Re: Moundros (who was repping at MLB) Still not sure how I feel about a converted fullback sliding into the starting lineup

Good luck, fellas.

Re: Austin White and Fitzgerald Toussaint?? Were they at the....

Fitz was being held out as a precautionary measure...just like Jonas Mouton was. No biggie just being safe with minor nicks..

White...well...sounds like as of right now the coaching staff is not inclined to let him reverse his decision to quit.

Riiiiiiiight.

Also worth noting, Mouton and Molk both sat out their scrimmage. Looks like both are still a little dinged up. Both are now considered "team leaders"...nobody wants to start a season with their "leaders" dinged up. Also, there are rumblings that Molk's knee is still an issue. Seeing how that line performed when he went down last year, this is an area of significant concern. Even Mr. Sunshine himself (beav) is expressing concern.

For all the trash talk going on about UM they do have some talented athletes. But in the end their real problem is depth. I watched the BTN preview show and agree with their assessment that the deepest and most talented position on their team is - wide receiver.

Too bad they aren't the focus of an RR offense.

Amazing how the major area of concentration in recruiting turns into their team strength.

How many top shelf defensive players do we have lined up for the next class now?
