i don't justify it. The loss sucked, but Va Tech's loss is about as close as we'll get to seeing the same thing IMO.

Meh. Michigan was ranked #5 with a host of returning seniors coming back for a national title run after missing the title game the year before due to a narrow loss to the #1 team in the country on the road in the last game of the regular season.
Virginia Tech wasn't very good to begin with, already had a loss on their record, was turning around on short rest after a Monday night game, and had been exposed as error prone and undisciplined by Boise St.
Not comparable at all, IMHO.
