2010 Ryder Cup - Europe wins 14.5-13.5

Regardless who wins (and Europe is currently ahead*) I think you can sum this Ryder Cup up in one word: DISASTER

It was a weather DISASTER

It was a raincoat DISASTER

It was a scheduling DISASTER

It was a TV DISASTER

And if the Americans lose the cup which it appears that they will; it was just a total DISASTER.

* currently Europe is up 13-11 and lead in two of the four remaining matches. If their lead hold up the final will be 15-13 Europe.

USA's only hope: G. McDowell is 2 Up thru 14 over H. Mahon, for USA to tie the Ryder Cup 14-14 (and retain the trophy) Mahon must win the match (i.e. win 3 holes and lose none over the last 4 holes). :(

Update: R. Fowler won the last three holes against E. Molinari to halve the match. Now H. Mahon only needs to half his match (i.e. not actually win it) to tie at 14-14. It is now 13 1/2 to 13 1/2. H. Mahon did win the 15th so he is only down 1 now. :)

Once again, back to our usual Ryder Cup MO...good play in the singles, a few vets who tank (Furyk in singles, Mickelson in pairs), but really losing the Cup in the first sets of 4-ball matches, which we seem to always suck at.

Mickelson's record in team competition in the Ryder Cup is terrible. It might even be worse than Woods record but at least Tiger came through in all of those matches this year and I am pretty sure that Mickelson only one in his singles match:(

The most baffling stat to me is that the US hasn't won the cup on european soil since 1991. That is inexplicable. This cup was lost on one afternoon of play. We actually played great during the 4somes and 4ball matches until the final afternoon. Not winning one match out of 6 is crazy.

I feel bad for Mahan. He seems to be taking it all on himself, but he just happened to be in the last spot. This really had nothing to do with him. That chunked chip shot on 17 will be tough to get over though.

Watched a lot of golf this weekend. Phil's teammates (Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler) tanked more than Phil did in the matches he was paired with them. Aside from Fowler's chip-in, I don't remember either of Phil's teammates winning a hole for the team.

Overall, I thought Bubba Watson (carried by Overton) played the poorest, then Hunter Mahan, then Matt Kuchar (carried by Cink), then Dustin Johnson. Dustin Johnson played much better today, but then again, Martin Kaymar would have lost to anyone the way he played today.

McDowell opened the door on several holes, and Mahan just played very mediocre - he would have been above par by several strokes for the round, had they finished. It just wasn't his day, because a point was there for the taking against McDowell.

The bottom line is that by and large, we suck at this competition. let's face it, we've been repeatedly skullfucked by journeymen like Paul McGinley. Nothing against McGinley either, but we've always had highly talented guys (Curtis Strange, Mickelson, Furyk, Fred Couples, hell even Woods many years) who have never been able to win at this. No idea why, but over the past 25 years or so, we just aren't very good at the Ryder Cup...4-9. That's over a lot of generations of captains and players.

Regardless of score, the American captain should walk up and take the trophy from their bitchy little rat claws in any year the presentation isn't spoken in German or Russian.

Fucking Euro's.
