Game Thread 2010 Rose Bowl: Ohio State 26 Oregon 17 (Final, 1/01/2010)

Oregon has averaged 37.7 points per game this season; they have hit the 48-point mark exactly once in 2009, a 52-point performance against Washington State, a 1-11 team with the absolute worst defense in the entire FBS - Washington State was #120 in total defense (512.00 yards per game) and #118 in scoring defense (38.50 points per game). But Oregon is going to lay 48 points on Ohio State, who has the #5 defense in the nation, giving up 12.2 points per game and 262.50 yards per game?

Ohio State hasn't given up 48 points since october 29, 1994, when Penn State scored 63 on them. In the Tressel era, Ohio State has played #1 Miami (2002), #5 Michigan (2003), #8 Kansas State (2003), #7 Michigan (2004), #2 Texas (2005), #8 Penn State (2005), #5 Notre Dame (2005), #2 Texas (2006), #2 Michigan (2006), #2 Florida (2006), #2 LSU (2007), #1 USC (2008), #3 Penn State (2008), and #3 Texas (2008) and not given up 48 points to any of those great teams; in fact, the Buckeyes have given up an average of just 26.4 points in those 13 games gainst top-8 competition. As the head coach of the Buckeyes, Tressel has given up 40 or more points just once, to Florida in the 2006 BCS title game. But Oregon, who is accustomed to playing against the defenseless defenses of the Pac 10, is going to put up historic numbers against Ohio State's defense?

Ohio State has by far the most talented defense that Oregon will have seen all year. On top of that, Ohio State's style of play - the much-maligned Tresselball - will probably cost the Ducks at least ten points just as a result of the pace of the game. But somehow Oregon will quadruple Ohio State's "points against" average?

Southern Cal, Penn State, and Iowa combined to score 49 points against Ohio State's defense (and seven of those points came on a kick-off return in the Iowa game, and seven more came on a 2-yard drive after an interception in the Southern Cal game). But the Quack Attack is going to score that many points all by themselves?

Oregon is a good team, and they might win this game ... I suppose that there is even a slight possibility that they will score 48 points (Ohio State turns the ball over eight times, the game goes into four overtimes, etc.). But Mr. Littlefield's prediction is not only bad and ignorant and stupid, but it is also irresponsible. There is not a shred of evidence on which he can rely that would tend to indicate that Oregon's offense is capable of scoring 48 points against any team in the country on a regular basis (they did it just once this season, against the worst defense in FBS), or that Ohio State's defense (ranked #5 in the nation in both scoring defense and total defense) is so pathetic that they will surrender 48 points to anybody at any time in any venue whatsoever (it hasn't happened in over fifteen years). If Mr. Littlefield's prediction legitimately expresses his feelings about this game (and I say "feelings" because obviously there were no "thoughts" involved), then he is a simply a buffoon who knows nothing about either team involved in this contest. If his so-called prediction is an attempt to promote an agenda (such as riling up a fan base in order to generate "buzz" for himself), then he is beneath contempt. Sadly, much of the college football "media" reside under the same rock as Mr. Littlefield - they are just a bunch of internet trolls with press passes.

LOL yea that was a pretty retarded prediction. Nice job LJB.

"I heard the workers at (The Home Depot Center practice facility) saying that we look like we're just punching the clock, but they look like they're having a good time,'' Posey said. "I'm going to have to bring that same energy.''

I don't normally like scouting reports from Home Depot Center employees, but hopefully the Buckeyes can play loose.

Anyone here getting tired of hearing about the Big Ten's performance in bowl games? It's time to shut them the hell up! Go Bucks!

I like what I see so far.. Pac 10 bad, SEC bad, Florida teams in general.. bad.

Wished Minne won, but hey, one point.

Aggressive Offense and a stout D would do me good today!!

GO BUCKS!!!:oh:

Can Pryor Silence Critics Today?

I watched Pryor play in high school and I hope today is the day he finally makes his statement. If Tressel can loosen up the reigns just a little, Buckeyes should take the Ducks today.

Great defense always beats great offense!
