I am gonna use my first post here to give the big uglies some love. The defensive line shined last night. Oregon seemed a little shocked about how good they are.

I also think the score is a bit deceptive. We missed two touchdowns on dropped or missed passes and their kick return game kept them in good field position. We were head and shoulders above the Ducks. It wasn't even close.

Pryor looked like a different quarterback. Sure we threw a lot of high percentage passes that helped with the stats, but he made some things happen on his own too.

Play of the game was the throw to and catch by Ballard.

Good first post...welcome.

That may have been the "play of the game" that really "iced" it but my favorite was the wheel route to Saine. I LOVE that play and hope to see a lot of it next year.

The defense was full of great plays too. I said it earlier, but Jim Heacock (once again) called a brilliant game. Is there a more underrated coordinator in all of football? I think not...we are very lucky to have him.

Putting the season into perspective

With the Buckeye offense struggling to achieve consistency and the ugly loss to Purdue, many observers, including myself, thought that winning two out of the last three games (PSU, Iowa and TSUN) was a reasonable expectation. Instead the valiant Buckeyes closed the season strong and left no doubt they were the best team in the Big Ten.

A college football team has three goals: beat your rival, win your conference, and win your bowl game. The Ohio State University football team did just that. This is a glorious thing. While every team may dream of having an undefeated season and winning a national championship, college football has always been about beating your rival and being the conference champs.

Sure, the Bucks would like to win every game they ever play, but they accomplished all the major goals. They beat TSUN, won the B10 outright, and won the Rose Bowl.

That's a wonderful thing. A job well done. A great season. Congratulations to the 2009-2010 Buckeye football team!

Great win by Buckeyes. The Buckeyes were impressive in this win. I love that Pryor had more total yards than Oregon's entire offense after all we had to hear. I loved how we completely controlled the game. I still think it's funny that Kelly says TOP is the most overrated stat in football.

I also love it when Mark May looks like the tool he is.

Great job Buckeyes! You made us proud. Great season.

Holding Oregon to 17 was impressive, especially in light of their very favorable field position throughout the game. Does anyone know what the average starting field position was for each team? Unless I missed it, I haven't seen that discussed.

Did some math of my own (measured from the offensive teams' end zones):

OSU starting field position by drive:
25, 2, 50, 15, 20, 54, 20, 20, 13, 19, 27

OSU started at the 24 yard line on average.

Oregon starting field position by drive:
26, 27, 41, 70, 31, 47, 38, 43, 33, 64

Oregon started at the 42 yard line on average. They never ONCE started closer than the 26 yard line, though OSU did on 8 of their 11 possessions.

Again, to give that offense that kind of starting field position (unfortunately) and to hold them to only 17 points is very impressive. Well done defense.

For all of you are thinking about purchasing Rose Bowl gear think about kicking a little bit back to site. Even $5 will go a long way.

One thing I've noticed as the year progressed about our RB's was that Boom and Saine somewhat switched rolls. Everyone called Saine a speed runner who didn't like contact. I think he squashed that image and showed he likes dealing out the punishment to go along with speed. Boom showed a little wiggle in his game we didn't think he had. I thought he was a straight line runner. There were a few times he busted a run outside after seeing nothing in the middle and I had a WTF are you doing, wait gogogogo moment. This team is going to be special next year. I hate skipping the summer, but can we just go straight to the end of August?
