2010 OSU Fall Camp (check in on 8/5)

Man, the more I read about Cam the more I think he's going to rack up a 10+ sack season. He could end up being the best defensive player in the country this year. I'm not exaggerating, I just think he's going to be that good. He's got the talents and, most importantly, the mindset. I cannot wait to see him blow up offenses this year.

Agreed. If he can bring it every game this year, we'll be in good shape. Couple that with what we have heard about Dex (Blowing up the interior line like he never has before) and we have a recipe of success on defense. I really would like for another pass rusher to step up, particularly someone like Melvin Fellows. It's too bad Keith Wells left because I really think he would be getting some valuable reps right now.

Melvin Fellows passing up Wells on the depth chart and taking reps away seems like a likely explanation for Wells' transfer, we will be alright.

I think we will be alright also, but we haven't really heard much about Melvin this summer, mostly because he has been hurt. He's been hurt his entire, albeit young, career here at OSU. Who else can come off the edge? Could we see a true frosh, or maybe Etienne Sabino over there at the LEO?

There is this and this about Fellows, and as far as I know, while he was injured last year, he hasn't had any issues with injuries from the spring on.

It is odd that for the first time in a long time we seemingly have more depth in the middle than on the edge.

I think the most likely way to get pressure off the edge is the 3-4 look with Williams/Thomas in one OLB spot and Sabino/Newsome/Sweat on the other with Heyward, Larimore, and Simon in the middle.

They showed this look during the Big Ten Networks visit to practice, and Ohio State has been moving in that direction for awhile anyways. I don't think we will show the look all the time, but in passing situations or against spread offenses we might see it a lot.

I am also excited about the possibilities of Tyler Moeller blitzing from his star spot.

Hell ya so am I. He made people say, "Who is that guy" when we played Illinois in '08. Kid I know that plays college ball at a smaller school, but played against Tyler in one of the Ohio HS all star games, said Tyler is the hardest hitting guy he had ever been tackled by. Can't wait to see him back on the field in Nickel.

Aside from that, today is the last day of camp. I think the players will get a day or two off and then guess what? It's game week bitches! Single digits on the countdown, trees starting to change a little already, sun is setting earlier, mornings are getting cooler, and the hype is building. Gonna' be a great year!

As far as backups to the Leo goes, Sweat has been reportedly filling in nicely. I think between him Thomas someone will step up. For SSDE if Fellows doesn't work out Bellemy had a great scrimmage the other day and got high praise. Again I think we have plenty of talent on the D-Line that someone will step up and be effective.

My eyes welled up a little when I read this. Sucks to be in AZ this time of year.

I'll be fine in about a month though when we are 4-0 and rolling through the college football season!
