2010 Aussie Open - Men

Wow, I woke up early anticipating watching the last part of the 3:30 am Federer - Tsonga semifinal and it was over. :(
Federer prevailed over #6 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets Friday.
His victory earns him Sunday's final round, his 18th out of the last 19 Grand Slam finals against Britain's (Scotland's) Andy Murray.
According to Patrick McEnroe, Federer appeared to be toying with Tsonga on the day, surrendering only 7 games to the Frenchman.
Statistics of note, Federer had 33 winners to 13 unforced errors, had a first serve winning percentage of 84% and faced no break points but converted 5 of the 10 breakers he had. Tsonga committed 27 unforced errors with only 21 winners. The best of 5 match lasted an hour and 28 minutes.

I watched the Fed-Tsonga match this morning - it was a clinic by Federer. He never faced a break point on his serve; the commentators said that Murray's workout earlier in the day was harder than Federer's match, and I believe it.

It should be a great final - I was ready to switch and pick Murray before seeing Fed play today, but I'll stick with Roger because he's got more offense than Murray, and can adjust his play when things aren't going well.

Federer won in straight sets. The first two were rather straightforward, Murray struggled on his serve, especially his second.

The third set was tight, Murray was up a break and serving at 5-4, but got broken and they ended up in a tiebreak. Murray had 5 set points in the tiebreak, and Federer ended up winning on his 3rd Championship point, 13-11 in the tiebreak.

16 major titles, and 3 of the last 4 since he broke down after losing to Nadal in last year's Aussie final.
