Bucks Recruiting?

Anyone know how the Lady Bucks recruiting is going? I know they have a commitment from a Toledo area point guard who will hopefully be Sammy's replacement someday, but do they have the next dominant center in the Davenport/Lavender tradition coming down the pipeline?

There are already have a 6'4" player from Serbia on the roster who didn't play many minutes last year and they have 4 new players coming in this year and other than that I know absolutely nothing except that there is a very good guard who plays at a Columbus public school (Africentric) but I do not know if Foster is recruiting or not.

Here is a link to the incoming class. I personally know Amy, which will make going to some games fun this year.

Ohio State Buckeyes Basketball Recruiting 2010 - ESPN
That entire class is profiled in the 2009-2010 thread. I think Akron was talking about the recruiting class which will be signing this Fall. I will post a more profiled link with bios for last year's class which includes Amy:)

This game should give the team an idea of how good they are.

Ohio State Will Face UConn in Maggie Dixon Classic Dec. 19

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's basketball team will face UConn in the Maggie Dixon Classic Dec. 19, MSG Sports and the Dixon Family announced Wednesday. Joining the Buckeyes and Huskies in the fifth-annual event at Madison Square Garden are Rutgers and Texas A&M.

The six-time defending Big Ten champion Buckeyes and head coach Jim Foster will face fellow hall of fame head coach Geno Auriemma and the Huskies in the second game of a doubleheader. It will be Ohio State's second appearance in the Maggie Dixon Classic, while UConn, back-to-back defending NCAA champions, will make its second appearance in three years in the Classic.

Making their fourth appearance in the Maggie Dixon Classic, Rutgers, led by Hall of Fame head coach C. Vivian Stringer, will take to the court against Gary Blair's defending Big 12 Tournament champion Texas A&M. This will mark Texas A&M's first appearance in the Classic.

All four head coaches participating in the 2010 Maggie Dixon Classic are ranked in the Top 20 among active coaches in winning percentage. Between the four coaches there are a total of 2,857 victories.

Tickets for the Maggie Dixon Classic start at $15 and go on sale at noon Thursday. They can be purchased at the Madison Square Garden box office, all Ticketmaster locations and online at Madison Square Garden - Official Web Site. Madison Square Garden's full college basketball schedule will be announced at a later date. It will be the fourth-consecutive season Madison Square Garden will serve as hosts of the premier event.

The Maggie Dixon Classic is held annually in memory of the former Army Black Knights women's basketball coach. On April 6, 2006, the women's college basketball community lost a young Maggie Dixon, who died from an undiagnosed heart condition. Over the course of her six months as head coach at the United States Military Academy, she led the program to unprecedented heights; the Black Knights played in their first Patriot League Championship and Dixon led her team to their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance.

More than 325,000 Americans die every year from sudden cardiac arrest and Madison Square Garden will again team with the Dixon family to host a Heart Health Fair. All fans are encouraged to attend the Heart Health Fair to help raise awareness of heart related illness.

OSU women's basketball: Summertime was no vacation
Tuesday, October 12, 2010
By Jim Massie
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Media day for the Ohio State women's basketball team broke yesterday in the practice gym of Value City Arena with its usual moments of mugging for the assorted cameras and weathering the usual series of machine-gun interviews.

The Buckeyes, six-time defending Big Ten champions, appeared to have fun with it all even though a serious storyline existed beneath the smiles and other pleasantries.

In the final game of 2009-10, Mississippi State handed Ohio State and its five returning starters an 87-67 beating in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The loss spurred a summer "vacation" that brought everyone, including the four-player freshman class, into the gym and weight room.

Sophomore guard Tayler Hill's experience seemed typical.

"We worked on our weaknesses," Hill said. "I put up a lot of shots this summer. I did that every day. I know we had workouts every day, but then on my own I went to the gym to work more."

Senior guard Brittany Johnson nodded.

"We were here every day," she said. "We want to get better. The season is going to be hard. Other teams are working hard, too. We have a chance to go really far this year if we stay focused."

Rayven Ferguson

Word is the Buckeyes picked up a verbal from a very good wing player, Rayven Ferguson from Columbus Afrocentric. From what I've heard, she's an athletic, creative wing player with decent size and a nose for the basket.

ESPN Player EvaluationsEvaluation On The Trail Conversation USA U17 Trials-June: This top-40 guard has been criticized for her consistency and her defense in recent tournaments. It is obvious that she is intent on proving these critiques wrong, as she put together one of the most complete performances to date. Historically she has exploded with big offensive games and accompanied with her physical strength and size her potential had earned her ranking. She showed poise, smarts and the internal motor to be among the best in her class throughout the trials and with the shortage of point guards in the U18 trials she moved over and showed the moxie to get her team into its offense while also keeping the smaller, quicker guards in front of her defensively. If she can continue this into the FIBA Americas tournament later this month and into July, her already impressive list of suitors will grow longer and her argument to be ranked higher will grow louder. I've heard from her father that Caroline Coyer from Oakton, VA is being recruited by Ohio State. Some of you may recall that her older brother Chris received a late football offer from Ohio State a couple of years ago. Caroline is a point guard that is an excellent (and clutch) three point shooter and a tough as nails competitor. She was Northern Region MVP her freshman year which was quite an accomplishment as the competition in the region included a senior who was committed to play basketball for UNC and womens basketball in northern Virginia is played at a high level. Caroline is a junior this season and has led Oakton to a 54-3 record in her two previous seasons.

Foster's seems to keep things pretty quiet. In the top 100 list posted above Ohio State is not involved with any seniors except for the ones mentioned. When it comes to juniors, I have no idea but your young lady seems promising:)

Dobranic spent the summer at home in Novi Sad, Serbia, and returned with some refinements to her game. She played sparingly in her freshman season for the Buckeyes. With reserve center Andrea Walker a graduation loss, Dobranic could get more time on the court in relief of Jantel Lavender.

Freshmen Darryce Moore and Ashley Adams are other possibilities, although Adams is out for a couple of weeks after having arthroscopic knee surgery.

"To her credit, she's worked," Foster said. "There are a couple of technical things that she has to do on a regular basis that she fights a bit. It's different than what she has done (in Europe). The lane is not as wide here. Her game is tailored a little differently as a result. What she has to do, she has started to slowly understand."
Foster spoke highly of freshman Amy Scullion, who was lost for the season last week to a knee injury.

"Amy already has made the transition between the ears," Foster said. "You can tell just watching her on the sidelines doing what she has to do to get ready for her next task. Her next task is surgery. But she has to have a certain amount of strength and conditioning. When you hava to do that kind of work, sometimes you have a tendency to feel sorry for yourself. She shows none of that. You like to see the moxy of the kid at such an early age."

The Buckeyes also are dealing with an illness. Sophmore guard Amber Stokes is going to be out for an indefinite time with a viral infection. Stokes, Foster said, was having a great preseason before she got sick.
