Multiple national championships in a school year are rare, and something to be celebrated, no matter the sports. Some schools have been able to pull of the feat with two "minor" sports, or a "major" (football, m/w hoops) and a minor.
Not often has a school pulled off two majors in the same year. Recently, of note:
UConn once swept men's and women's basketball. Florida once swept football and men's basketball.
Could the Buckeyes sweep ALL 3 majors in 2010?
As it stands right now, the football team returns most of its starters, losing Coleman, Thad and a handful of important seniors from the 2-deep. Coleman and Thad will be missed - as will Ray, Rob Rose, etc. - but the bulk of the contributors are back with many talented youngsters waiting to see the field (hence http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/...more-geared-ntl-championship-2010-2011-a.html)
In men's hoops, Turner could leave. There is outside speculation that Buford could too, but nothing is definite. If both stay, the core of Lighty, Buford, Diebs, Dallas and, of course, Turner plus the top recruiting class in the nation almost assuredly make the Buckeyes a preseason top-5 with talent and experience on par with any of the top teams.
The Lady Buckeyes won't lose ANY starters from a team that is STEAMROLLING teams right now and have to be considered contenders to win the NCAA THIS year.
So... 2010-11... could it be done? Other than the football schedule, which plays out nicely with PSU, scUM and southern scUM at home, I haven't examined schedules. That being said, it's fair to predict that both hoops teams will have the potential to enter their respective tournaments as high seeds...
I will say it now because... why the hell NOT?
2010-11 will be the year of the Buckeye!
