2010-11 season predictions?

Hopefully these guys (Gibson, Heyward) get the Doss effect and stay their Senior season like Doss, Malcolm and JL did...this team can really be phenominal if they stayed, really good if they didn't.

In my opinion, Pryor has not shown the consistency to let me believe he will be a Heisman finalist. If he shows the consistency required for me to believe he can be a finalist, then the schedule SHOULD be pretty easy.

The tough games will be at Wisconsin, Penn State, at Iowa, and Michigan. But even a good team can have a hiccup against a mediocre team, and let it slip away. They should be favored to win every game, but I don't think I'd order my "national championship" hat just yet.

No precedence for this.

Realistically, if the Buckeyes had gone undefeated this season, you really think they would have replaced either Alabama or Texas in this year's NC game?

I think if the Bucks had been undefeated, we would have seen the same game we saw last Friday (in the Rose Bowl -against the Ducks).

my goals list

for 2010-11:

1. Beat Michigan, again (this never gets old)

2. Win the Big Ten (ditto)

3. Win big out-of-conference games

4. Then, hopefully, get into NC game

5. Improve Special Teams

6. Heisman? Who cares?

7. Love to see all of our running backs get their chance to shine --- I don't even know the new guys coming in, but Herron, Saine, Jordan, Martin and Berry?? Dude! when TP needs a break I see the wildcat in our future.

all great goals, but i have my priorities!!!

I shaved my beard the night of the TSUN game this season. I haven't shaved since. My new beard growth is undefeated, and frankly, it looks meaner than the guy that works 3rd shift at the Circle K on the corner of W. Main and Williams. (I honestly hope he doesn't read this) I won't be shaving again until tOSU loses a football game.

Anyone live near W. Main and Williams?

If there are two undefeated teams from conferences like the SEC/Big 12/PAC 10....and the Bucks are undefeated too.....I can really see us being dissed for past performance.

I think that this win put that behind us. The news items will be struggles at Florida and USC.

This has been discussed ad nauseum in another thread... It is all personal opinion at this point. The Bucks were 8th pre Rose Bowl with 2 losses. At the time of the USC game they would have been pushed to 2-3. USC may have not laid an egg at Wash(who knows?) and been able to keep pace in the Pac 10 and had something to play for at the end. Boise, Cincy and TCU's points could have been put into the Buckeye bucket and easily given them a chance. As brought up before in another thread, The Bucks had 4 wins this year against 10 win teams leading up to the Rose. Alabama in for sure... most likely. But the way that Texas won the last game gave talk (be it minimal) to TCU as having a chance. Ohio State would have been in the mix. The point being that there is a cloud of thought that OSU's media bias would have anything to do with missing out on a Title shot. This has NEVER happened. OSU was #1 against LSU and lost 2 games the following 2 years. OSU has never forced a scenario to occur that would make the 2 human polls to pick and decide to not put Ohio State in. There is a chance that this decision would need to be made next year though. Alabama, USC/Oregon, and Ohio State could all go undefeated. Then we would see who the Coaches and Harris Polls think should be in (we would most likely have the lesser SOS out of the 4 teams).

With Heyward and Chekwa returning, barring major injuries I see little reason for the team to not run the table in the regular season against what should be a very manageable schedule. I generally don't believe that Iowa matches up well against OSU and we get the Nits and UM at home. At Wiscy is the only game that's somewhat scary IMO. Miami doesn't seem to have "the swagger" back.

That said, I remain skeptical that our offensive staff has what it takes to have the Bucks put up a good enough offensive performance, especially in the red zone, to beat a team with a top-notch defensive front seven in a NC game absent a brilliant performance by our defense. Certainly the Bucks will also have to do much better in the hidden yards special teams battle in such a game than they did in the Rose Bowl to have a realistic shot.

Early preseason rankings (Top 25) for 2010 from Mark Schlabach, ESPN.....

1. Alabama
2. tOSU
3. Boise State
4. Oregon
5. Texas......
1. Alabama Crimson Tide plays top ten teams ??????.
Other top twenty five SEC teams are Florida, LSU, Arkansas, and Georgia.

2. tOSU plays top ten teams Iowa and Wisconsin.
The other top twenty B10 team is Penn St. Throw in top twenty opponent Miami, and we have some strength of schedule.

3. Boise plays top ten team Virginia Tech.
The top WAC teams are, well, only themselves?. Another top twenty five opponent is Oregon State.

4. Oregon plays top ten teams ?????.
The other top twenty five P10 teams are USC, Oregon State, and Stanford. Other top twenty five opponents include ?????.

5. Texa plays top ten teams Nebraska.
The other top twenty five B12 team is Choklahoma. Other top twenty five opponents include ?????.

Looks like we could have four, maybe five opponents with ten win seasons again. This is while the other top ten teams look like (from this point, anyway) weaker schedules.

I don't really like polls this early (and even August is too early IMO) but: It looks like a cake walk - If we don't do a mid-season stumble...

12 and 1 followed by a Rose Bowl win. At which point we put a Mythical Crystal Football in our trophy case to watch the one in USC's. What worries me is not who leaves, but who sits behind TP.

Two toughest games are again on the road and Iowa, who must have just about the best damn offensive line coach in the country, is loaded at QB and RB.

Let's all hope cinci fares better this year than he did last year:

The Big 12 will revert to history next year. Texas and Oklahoma will cake walk through the rest of the league, Mizzou and the rest of the north will be mediocre at best and the chamiponship game will be a 1st quarter laugher. Put me down for a bet on that.

Unfortunately the Big 10 won't be much better and Notre Dame will thus get off to a 5 - 0 start. Mark that in my v-bet book too.

Oregon will start out on fire, catch two important injuries and spend October in decline.

Hoisted on my own petard am I?

I really couldn't see how Charlie could be less that 5 - 0 coming out of the chute. God bless Tater Tot and Dick Wad for that one. Did anyone call Oregon in the Rose Bowl? Did anyone call USC out of the race by the end of October? It took until the bowl games were over before I began feel good about the Big 10 again.
