2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

I think they actually improved quite a bit in year 2 of RR.

They scheduled some bad MAC teams and a 1-AA team and beat them all. They also scored 10 points against OSU this year as opposed to 7 in 2008.

Some see abject failure, I see incremental improvement but then again I'm an optimist.

I actually think they showed that they have the potential to have a very good offense.

Potential, though. We'll see. Heck, they might be changing their team's strategy again next year.

Yep, they definitely progressed. At least this year they could finally beat MAC teams. :slappy:

Now they just have to figure out that Big 10 thing.

Last season, we heard a lot more about the spread, whether it was dying, whether defensive coordinators were figuring out how to stop it, whether M*ch*g*n was hopping on the spread bandwagon too late, etc. We didn't hear much about the spread this season. Whether the spread offense can succeed in the Big 10 is yet another discussion.

For their part, I am sure Tress, Heacock, et al. have a special war room where they hunker down and figure out how to thwart the spread. They're already planning for next year.

This is all about offense so far. As far as M*ch*g*n's defense, it doesn't look like they will be all that much better next year. They could have the fanciest, most unconservative, unTressellike offense, but if their D can't hold opponents, what's the point?

I'd have to think that it'd be worse. Graham was probably the best Defensive player in the conference and they lose him along with at least one other of the front four and probably their best CB.

So pretty much any improvement that the offense has will be nullified by the further regression of the defense.

They need to find a power back. They struggle without Minor and I don't see anybody to replace him.

The Buckeye Watch
By Tony Gerdeman Another year, another win over Michigan.
Soon it will become its own national holiday: ?Pummeling Day? (not to be confused with Boxing Day).
And while some were concerned by the relatively close 21-10 win for the Buckeyes (including Michigan fans, who took the game to mean they weren?t that far away), I choose to view it as your typical beating by a bully.
Bullies don?t do anything fancy. They don?t break out the karate and start coming at you with spinning kicks and screeches. Bullies use brute force, and they use it well.
Besides, when are you even going to employ karate when you?re busy holding some punk?s head in the toilet. And there?s really no need for a roundhouse kick when you?re stuffing somebody in a locker.........
