2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs Discussion Thread

Hell even Crysby got away with a right cross to someone's face without a penalty.

The rules are not being equally applied when it comes to the "model franchise".

Now you're starting to sound like a Flyer fan: crying about calls and crying about Crosby. :tibor:

I like how you reference Crosby, yet fail to mention when Richards gave him that forearm to the face on a third period check. That shit happens all the time.

Teams need to suck it up and stop the pp or make the most of their opportunity. The Flyers did neither.

The rules are not being equally applied when it comes to the "model franchise". Just wait until the Blackhawks get into a situation where they might win something if they get a call. You can bet Colin Campbell's kid will be involved too.

It's a crock. enjoy the series win.

This is the playoffs... They aren't going to call some of it, and will call some of it. The penalties last night were all great calls. Even the one to Gill in the overtime that gave the Flyer's a chance to close out the game. Philly, IMO, outplayed the pens last night and you know what? The pens still won.

Why such an attitude toward the pens anyways? They shouldn't worry you since you're a Detroit fan. Or do they?

Sat. results:

NYR 1, WSH 0; (NYR lead series 2-0)

DET 4, CBJ 0; (DET 2-0)

BOS 5, MTL 1; (BOS 2-0)

CHI 3, CGY 2; (CHI 2-0)

Sun. result and schedule:

PHI 6, PIT 3; (PIT leads series 2-1)

VAN @ STL, 7 EDT (VAN leads series 2-0)

NJ @ CAR, 7:30 EDT (series tied 1-1)

ANA @ SJ, 10 EDT (SJ leads series 1-0)

Today's PHI/PIT game was the best I've seen this playoffs, and not just because the Pens lost. Tons of action, lots of hitting, good skill plays by both teams; just what playoff hockey should be. PHI did a good job digging along the boards all game, PIT fanned on a few good chances early, game was not as lopsided as the score. I will make a point of watching the rest of the series.

BTW, what's up with all the broken sticks this year? In the PHI/PIT game, there were at least half a dozen that just snapped in half. It used to be unusual to see more than 1-2 in the same game. I'm assuming that nearly all players are using some sort of composite (kevlar, fiberglass), which are supposed to be stronger. It wouldn't be so odd if they were breaking at the shaft/blade joint, but all I have seen were in the middle of the shaft.

ive been saying for a long time they need to add blows to the head to the rulebook. players are two valuable to lose them for long stretches or their careers ended with senseless concussions.

composite sticks, with these sticks you can get mad whip. guys like fedorov who have high stick velocities snap them dang near every game. personally yes they give you a few mphs on the slapper but how often do you see a tea

Are aluminum shafts still legal? I remember a few years ago, they were the new fad, but I think there was talk of outlawing them. This kind of reminds me of what I've read about the "banana" blades Bobby Hull used before they regulated blade curve. Sure, you get some extra snap or your shot, but do you know where it's going? Seems like the added liability of having one snap in half at least once a game would negate the perceived advantage; especially since most of the breaks I've seen have come from the point, and turned into a break the other way against a stickless defender. That happened to Mike Richards today, and he made a great check to knock the guy off the puck. Still had to get another stick, though. I just find it annoying, like maple bats in baseball.

NJ 3 CAR 2 in OT (NJ leads 2-1 )

ANA 3 SJ 2 (ANH leads series 2-0) - another post-season flameout for the Sharks. :slappy:

It's a Pennsylvania thing - virtually all of the Pens fans I grew up around were obnoxious assholes

I could make similar generalizations about fans of "Hockeytown", also known as a perennial cellar dweller the first 20+ years of my life that suddenly spawned legions of fans in Ohio once they turned into the Yankees of the NHL in the 90s, but that wouldn't be a fair thing to say, either. :wink2:

you didn't grow up with me so you are automatically excluded.

Besides it had really waned until NBC got a collective boner over the 2nd best player on your team. That has a way of reinvigorating such things

is that at ovie or the rangers?

the wings will have a ton of guys who sit around and watch the other team practice. holland, babcock and the whole posse

It sounded kind of neutral, really. Article said that the Rangers asked Ovechkin to leave because it was awkward. Ovechkin did so without any problems and joked with the media about it. It was really a non-story, I find it humorous that it found it's way to the front page instead of the playoff games.
