2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs Discussion Thread

Funny how everyone says Philly is the deepest team in the East.

They've really been saying that? Granted, I haven't looked into Philly much this year, but when I read that, I looked at their roster, and my first thought was "Who?". I'm not familiar with this Jeff Carter guy, but he looks like he's the real deal, stats wise. Richards and Gagne are respectable, but I don't see anything else that sticks out, compared to other teams. Does "deepest" mean more borderline 2nd/3rd liners than anyone else? Philly has had organizational issues for as long as I can remember, and if their mid-90s teams couldn't get it done, I don't see why this squad would have high expectations. I'm certainly not sold on Biron as a playoff goaltender. Good fortune for the Pens getting them in the 1st round, but once they start playing some hard hitting teams, I can't see them moving on.

Carter is definitely the real deal. I think Richards is a very good player as well.

During the game the guys calling the game were talking about the Flyers having two pairs of shutdown dmen. Going to have to disagree with that..

upset? fuck that noise :p

Well, it is a 2/7 matchup, but I'm sure you knew that. As long as the Rangers can keep Ovechkin off the board (with 13 shots!), and Theodore gives up goals on the short side, they have a great chance to move on. But just so you know, I will never say anything nice about the Rangers. The call of "Matteau! Matteau!" still rings in my ears as one of the worst moments of my life as a hockey fan. Did the Rangers have their 94 cup parade in Edmonton? :p

Some things never change with the Flyers. Yes, they may have the most offensive talent in the East, but they continue to take stupid penalties to dig themselves in a hole which they can't get out of.

After realizing they can't recover, they have to resort to that cheap shot shiit. Same as always.

It will definitely make for an interesting series, so Goddard may get some ice time Friday.

Mike, you get that Red beard started yet ?

Looks like they have some decent size on D, but other than Timonen (who isn't physical), I don't see anyone who has much of a reputation as a big game player. The Flyers had their chances in the mid 90s, and granted, they had to get past the Devils (specifically Stevens and Daneyko), but if those teams couldn't get it done, I don't see why this team can. I attribute much of that to Bobby Clarke putting too much stake in Lindros, but there have been other problems, most notably they haven't had a goaltender who had more than one flash-in-the-pan season since Parent.

admit it Pittsburgh fans, that horrifically bad penalty in the 3rd that you tied the game up with was a gift that probably will give you the series in 4 now.

Sure but bad calls happen every game and they still had to score the PP goal.

All Philly had to do was keep the puck out of the net, late in a game with a 1 goal lead, bad call or not.

Philly played a great , smart game, until Knuble got stupid. Who the hell gives someone a 2 hander in the back, in the offensive zone, in the Playoffs, when your team is on the PP ?

Hell it happens all the time and used to be very common place before the NHL became pussified.

Hell even Crysby got away with a right cross to someone's face without a penalty. Last night that got Mike Cammaleri a 2 minute minor.

The rules are not being equally applied when it comes to the "model franchise". Just wait until the Blackhawks get into a situation where they might win something if they get a call. You can bet Colin Campbell's kid will be involved too.

It's a crock. enjoy the series win.
