2009 NHL Trade Deadline

I'll defer to JO but at first blush that seems a little underwhelming to me from a CBJ point of view.
people were clamoring for vermette a few months ago. (this summer/last TD)

vermette is fast, skilled and plays on the ott third line. hes a line two type guy but with the top six of the sens thats hard to crack.

he plays center or wing, very very good at draws, better winger than C at this point (like umberger). plays the pk in ottawa, likely will see some pp time (didnt see it with guys like alfie, spezza, heatley, etc).

hes 26
6-1 205lbs, 4 year nhl vet. 2/55 pick
this year 9/19/28 -12 in 62 games. has played much better of late.

07/08 24/29/53 +3
06/07 19/20/39 -2
05/06 21/12/33 +17
03/04 7/7/14 +5

well see.

sens signed kuba 3yr 3.7m cap hit.
neil will be traded, deal in place if he doesnt meet ott demands
moore contract talks are off, hes going out of town.
sabres offered connolly 2 yr 4m cap hit deal (has not agreed)

that was a done deal. thats the one i referenced earlier.

Good to know.

Vermette's no superstar, but he's a guy who (along with the entire damn team) really struggled under Hartsburg and has been much more productive of late. Since January 4th, he has 6-14-20 and is +2 in 26 games.

Before that, in 36 games, he had 3-5-8 and was -14. Ouch.

The bottom line is they got rid of a guy they didn't need and got a guy that upgrades their offense.

The CBJ also save over a million bucks against the cap for next season. Vermette is signed through next season at $2.76 MM (cap#). LeClaire is 3.8MM (cap#) for the next 2 seasons.

I like the deal. Pascal was very movable for multiple reasons, and a second rounder isn't the worst thing we can lose. With so much young talent we can afford to lose a 2nd for a boost in our first playoff run. Antonie should be a great addition.

JO... who do you think will play next to him?

Some highlights from his bio that Jackets fans should like.

2007-08: Ranked sixth in the NHL in face-off percentage (56.7) ?Missed one game to injury.

2006-07:.....Missed five games to injury.

2005-06: Finished first on team and second in NHL with six short-handed goals......One of five Senators to play in all 82 games.
