2009 NHL Trade Deadline

discussion for this years deals, rumors and deadline stuff. feel free to use this and/or your fav teams thread.

DEADLINE IS MARCH 4TH

TradeCentre 09 - The Hit List

The Names

Jay Bouwmeester

bouwmeester_sm_57922.jpg
Team: Florida Panthers
Position: Defence
Age: 25
Contract Status: UFA on July 1
Notes: Bouwmeester is key to the Panthers' playoff chances. But if he chooses the open market over a contract extension before March 4, the Panthers may not have a choice other than to throw up the for sale sign and let the bidding begin.
Vincent Lecavalier

lecavalier_sm_45429.jpg
Team: Tampa Bay Lightning
Position: Centre
Age: 28
Contract Status: 11-year, $85 million extension begins July 1
Notes: The trading of Lecavalier remains an option that will be considered. To what extent it will be considered will be based on many factors that include: how the team is playing, how Lecavalier is playing, what the offers are from other teams, and in what direction ownership decides to take this franchise in the long run. All of those will get weighed and measured on a weekly basis between now and the trade deadline.
Marian Gaborik

gab-second_66974.jpg
Team: Minnesota Wild
Position: Left Wing
Age: 26
Contract Status: UFA on July 1
Notes: Gaborik is an elite talent as long as he's healthy. But even if he's at 100 percent, there's no guarantee that he'll re-sign with the only club he's ever played with.
Tomas Kaberle

Kaberle-s_44965.jpg
Team: Toronto Maple Leafs
Position: Defence
Age: 30
Contract Status: Signed for two more years at $4.25M per season
Notes: Kaberle hinted to reporters last month that he may consider waiving his no-trade clause if general manager Brian Burke approached him with a possible deal. While Burke hasn't done that, Kaberle's name appears to be in play.
Chris Pronger

cp2_53500.jpg
Team: Anaheim Ducks
Position: Defence
Age: 34
Contract Status: Signed for one more year at $6.25 million
Notes: The Orange County Register recently suggested that Pronger could be on the move if the Ducks' window for being a playoff contender closes. His trade status also depends on the direction they want to take going forward and if captain Scott Niedermayer plans to return next season.
Nik Antropov

NA_2_40925.jpg
Team: Toronto Maple Leafs
Position: Right Wing
Age: 28
Contract Status: UFA on July 1
Notes: Toronto has a plethora of players considered to be in play and Nik Antropov is among those most talked about. If the Leafs are offered a draft pick, or suitable prospect, they'll trade him rather than try and negotiate an extension.
Keith Tkachuk

keith-t_66987.jpg
Team: St. Louis Blues
Position: Left Wing
Age: 36
Contract Status: UFA on July 1
Notes: Tkachuk offers experience, grit and offence to any team. Considering the St. Louis Blues' struggles this season, he is once again a trade target.
Chris Neil

ruutu_sm_76085.jpg
Team: Ottawa Senators
Position: Right Wing
Age: 29
Contract Status: UFA on July 1
Notes: Neil balances a measure of skill and toughness many teams are seeking. Neil is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in July and the Senators may not have the cap space to re-sign him.
Colby Armstrong

armstrong-sm_80730.jpg
Team: Atlanta Thrashers
Position: Right Wing
Age: 26
Contract Status: RFA on July 1
Notes: According to TSN's Darren Dreger, Armstrong has attracted interest this season, including the Penguins who would like to see him reunited with captain Sidney Crosby.
Scottie Upshall

PHI_upshall_sm_78800.jpg
Team: Philadelphia Flyers
Position: Right Wing
Age: 25
Contract Status: RFA on July 1
Notes: Upshall, who still has plenty of upside, may be tough to part with. However, he's a restricted free agent this summer and is expecting a raise on his $1.25 million salary.
Michael Nylander

nylander_sm_76125.jpg
Team: Washington Capitals
Position: Centre
Age: 36
Contract Status: Signed for two more years with a $4.875M cap hit
Notes: Nylander has two years remaining on his contract and he eats up about $4.8 million in cap space, so he's a tough sell. But for a team eager to add some offence late in the season, Nylander may be the answer.

Dreger: Ten players to watch at the Trade Deadline

With a clear disclaimer there are no guarantees any of these men will get moved, we present ten prominent players believed by NHL sources to be in the mix.
Atlanta's Colby Armstrong has attracted interest this season, including from Pittsburgh who would like to see him reunited with Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.
Ottawa forward Chris Neil balances a measure of skill and toughness many teams are seeking. Neil is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in July and the Senators may not have the cap space to re-sign him.
Philadelphia's Scottie Upshall may be tough to part with, however he's a restricted free agent this summer and is expecting a raise on the $1.25 million salary.
Keith Tkachuk offers experience, grit and offence and considering the St. Louis Blues struggles this season, Tkachuk is once again a trade target.
Washington's Michael Nylander has two years remaining on his contract and he eats up 4.8 million in cap space, so he's a tough sell. But for a team like the Vancouver Canucks eager to add some offence late in the season, Nylander may be the answer.
Toronto has a plethora of players considered to be in play and Nik Antropov is among those most talked about. If the Leafs are offered a draft pick, or suitable prospect, they'll trade him rather than try and negotiate an extension.
Tomas Kaberle and Pavel Kubina have no-trade clauses. However, as the deadline approaches teams will call and if Brian Burke gets what he's looking for both Toronto defensemen will have a decision to make.
Pittsburgh defenseman Ryan Whitney's name is making the rounds. Pens GM Ray Shero may use Whitney to lure a top line forward for a late-season charge.
This list ends with perhaps, the most coveted of the group, Florida's Jay Bouwmeester. Bouwmeester is key to the Panthers' playoff chances, but if he chooses the open market over a contract extension before March 4th, the Panthers may not have a choice other than to throw up the for sale sign and let the bidding begin.
The National Hockey League is exactly five weeks out from the trade deadline and a steady stream of trade speculation flows on daily basis.

Dreger: Jokinen very much in play on deadline day

Olli Jokinen of the Phoenix Coyotes remains very much in play with the NHL Trade deadline a week away.
General Manager Don Maloney wants to make it work in Phoenix with Jokinen, but he also realizes that perhaps Jokinen isn't a great fit with the Coyotes this season or next, because they are a team built on youth.
The two sides have agreed that a trade is best for the Coyotes and Jokinen, but whether that trade happens on or before March 4, or at the Draft table in June has yet to be seen.

Pens send Whitney to Ducks for Kunitz, Tangradi
The Pittsburgh Penguins have cleared up a bit of their log jam along the blue line as they have sent Ryan Whitney to the Anaheim Ducks for Chris Kunitz and Eric Tangradi.
The 26-year old Whitney was a vital piece of the Penguins Stanley Cup run last year; however foot surgery caused him to miss the first 31 games of the season.
The Boston-native is one of the better puck moving defencemen in the league and should be a big boost to the ? power play. He became deemed surplus goods when fellow defenceman and Penguins' primary powerplay quarterback Sergei Gonchar returned a shoulder injury.
Whitney is in the second year of a six-year contract he signed with the Penguins last season. He was chosen fifth overall by the Penguins in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

he was traded for peca in 2001 (the sabres also got pyatt in that deal)

cab be a near a ppg type player
.96
.83
.5 (2 games)
.87
granted as noted those were all in injury shortened seasons. he broke a rib early this year. 7 year vet 6-1 190lbs. id mark him a good #2 centre.

as far as the deal it has been kicked around and variations of it. i think part of the rome thing is a tryout for the kid. for a legit spot. i think they feel confident in commodore, hejda, tyutin and methot now. thats the thing.

lots of options, lots of tires to kick right now. things are heating up as you can see with todays deal (thats a pretty big one in my books. a top six winger and nhl prospect for a #3/4 dman.

Maple Leafs to resume efforts to re-sign Moore

well see what happens if they cant ink moore. moore says his bottom line is 2.5-3m.

NHL on TSN panel examines Canadian teams at deadline
tidbits of the article
"The Toronto Maple Leafs expect offers to pour in starting tonight (Monday) for Nik Antropov, and depending on how the negotiation goes this evening with Larry Kelly, the agent for Dominic Moore, there is a good chance that Moore will also enter the fray in terms of those going out, and there's definite interest in Dominic Moore," added Dreger.
"Well I don't think there's any question that it's headed in that direction," said TSN Insider Bob McKenzie. "There has to be a meeting between Chris Neil's agent Todd Reynolds and Senators GM Bryan Murray at Noon on Tuesday. It doesn't look like they're going to be able to close the gap on him or Filip Kuba, so if they don't, I think those two players are likely to move before the deadline as rentals."
then their is this one, again.
"The more interesting thing in Ottawa is could they make a deal of longer-range implications with the Columbus Blue Jackets for a netminder, say Pascal Leclaire? The name has come up," continued McKenzie. "I don't think this is close to happening but there have been some conversations to that effect, and if Columbus were going to give up a guy who may now be expendable because of the emergence of rookie Steve Mason, well, Antoine Vermette's name comes up. That's the kind of deal that Ottawa may look at. Brian Elliott has played well this year, but by the same token, if they can add a veteran NHL goaltender to solve that problem for the next few years, they will."
