But what happens when the players available at your positions of need can't make the team immediately or need time to develop. Best to take a player that can play immediately. And Pettigrew can.

Very true. Also, as a TE Pettigrew will have importance as a blocker (he's an excellent one), which helps the offensive line development.

On the other hand, when you are as bad as the Lions, you need to improve pretty much everywhere.

Yes, best to wait to develop offensive line talent. The longer you wait, the faster it gets better. :wink:
