2009 NFL Draft (Mocks, Evaluation, etc.)

There are a lot of mocks that have JL going in the second.

I've seen that too, but who would honestly take a shot at UCONN's Donald Brown late in the 1st ahead of Beanie and letting him slip into the 2nd round? C'mon now... let's be realistic here...

That just sounds like a really suspect reason to pick a football player that high in the draft.

I wouldn't put a ton of stock in just that reason, but it is nice to see people do whatever they can to improve draft status. Andre Smith looking like a giant bowl of jelly is the exact opposite, and you do have to question someones desire after an episode of swinging tits with no females involved.

I have to do a mock draft for a presentation this week.. so it'd be awesome if I could get feedback (again).

Best presentation ever? Yes. A presentation on the NFL draft. :banger:

1. Detroit Lions
- Matthew Stafford (QB, Georgia)
2. St. Louis Rams - Jason Smith (OT, Baylor)
3. Kansas City Chiefs - Aaron Curry (OLB, Wake Forest)
4. Seattle Seahawks - Mark Sanchez (QB, USC)
5. Cleveland Browns - Michael Crabtree (WR, Texas Tech)
6. Cincinnati Bengals - Eugene Monroe (OT, Virginia)
7. Oakland Raiders - Jeremy Maclin (WR, Missouri)
8. Jacksonville Jaguars - BJ Raji (DT, Boston College)
9. Green Bay Packers - Brian Orakpo (DE/OLB, Texas)
10. San Francisco 49ers - Andre Smith (OT, Alabama)
11. Buffalo Bills - Aaron Maybin (DE/OLB, Penn State)
12. Denver Broncos - Malcolm Jenkins (CB, Ohio State)
13. Washington Redskins - Michael Oher (OT, Ole Miss)
14. New Orleans Saints - Chris Wells (RB, Ohio State)
15. Houston Texans - Everette Brown (DE, Florida State)
16. San Diego Chargers - Rey Maualuga (MLB, USC)
17. New York Jets - Josh Freeman (QB, Kansas State)
18. Denver Broncos - Tyson Jackson (DE, LSU)
19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Brian Cushing (OLB, USC)
20. Detroit Lions - Robert Ayers (DE, Tennessee)
21. Philadelphia Eagles - Knowshon Moreno (RB, Georgia)
22. Minnesota Vikings - Percy Harvin (WR, Florida)
23. New England Patriots - Clay Matthews (OLB, USC)
24. Atlanta Falcons - Brandon Pettigrew (TE, Oklahoma State)
25. Miami Dolphins - James Laurinaitis (LB, Ohio State)
26. Baltimore Ravens - Vontae Davis (CB, Illinois)
27. Indianapolis Colts - Peria Jerry (DT, Ole Miss)
28. Buffalo Bills - Eben Britton (OT, Arizona)
29. New York Giants - Hakeem Nicks (WR, North Carolina)
30. Tennessee Titans - Darrius Heyward-Bay (WR, Maryland)
31. Arizona Cardinals - Donald Brown (RB, Connecticut)
32. Pittsburgh Steelers - Alex Mack (C, California)

Couple explanations:
- Crabtree to the Browns because I think Edwards will be elsewhere.
- Raji to the Jags because the top two WRs and Sanchez are all gone.
- Orakpo to the Packers because Raji is gone, and Oher would be a reach.
- Bills addressing the pass rush instead of LT because this is a deep OT draft and there will be some very good rushers at 11, and Oher could be considered a reach at that point.
- Malcolm moving up to Denver because Tyson Jackson will likely be there with their pick at 18. I'd love that pick..
- Oher is a reach at 13, but the Redskins have no other needs that could be addressed as well as Oher could address their need at RT.
- Freeman is either going to the Jets or going second round, I think the Jets reach because it's a huge need.
- I think Harvin is the #3 WR, so the Vikings get him.
- Bills reach for Britton, but it's a huge need.
- I like Alex Mack the most at Center so I have the Steelers getting him, but I wouldn't be surprised if they take a CB like I had them doing in my last mock draft. I think one of Alphonso Smith, Darius Butler, Sean Smith and DJ Moore will be there at the end of round 2.

Woo. Hope I didn't forget about any free agent signings when I made this. Please give me input, since this is going to be presented to sports fans. Haha

I do the Colts in the BP mock draft, I think the your having the Colts take a DT is spot on.

Espn is reporting tonight that the Lions have an agreement in place with Stafford that will give him 41 mill. over 6 years garunteed. Risky in my eyes. What is sad is that on the NFL network it was reported that both the coach and GM had settled on Curry, but the owner Ford stepped in and wanted to make a splash with Stafford. There are reasons why some franshises wallow in ineptitude.

Shitty year to have the #1 overall pick, especially coming of the worst season in NFL history. That said, I think Stafford is the right move. He has a terrific arm, decent mobility and is an intelligent QB. Yeah, they could go OL, but who are they gonna play at QB? Caulpepper? Orlovsky? At least Stafford gives them a centerpiece to build around and they will have a QB to get Calvin Johnson the ball...

Brian Billick was on Serius today and felt he personally ruined Kyle Bollars career by playing him when he wasn't ready, and errepairably hurting his confidence. It was the consensus between T. Ryan. Pat Kerwin, and Billick that the expectation bar has been raised tremendously now, with the success of Matt ryan and Flacco. Detroit has no pass-pro, and a roster that many feel is no better than an expansion team. It will be a tough enviroment to sit stafford on the bench in, and an even tougher place to play and learn in. I agree that it is a shame that there is no Mario williams or Orlando Pace type of talent as an alternative in this draft. Equally troubling is having your football people overruled by a meddling owner. Detroit always seems to find ways to be in perpetual rebuilding mode.

I don't know if Stafford is the guy though.

Personally they could go defense very easily and not miss too badly on Curry even if he doesn't quite become a super star.

Their OL isn't too horrific (they aren't at the Browns level pre Joe Thomas) and their defense was the worst in the league by a WIDE margin. Defense is almost always an easier pitch to hit than is a QB.

What I'm trying to say is I don't think Detroit should be swinging for the fences here yet. A single will do just fine. Of course some Lions fans seem to want to get to the playoffs next year, my goal would be to win a game first. <queue up the Jim Mora quote>

Agreed for the most part. Personally, I think Sanchez is gonna be a better pro, but he doesn't present a value at #1 overall for some reason. There seems to be a stigma attached to LB'ers as high draft picks. Who was the last? Aundray Bruce in '88 IIRC and that was an epic bust. I don't see any of the OT's as franchise LT's in this class. I think they'd be wise to start Caulpepper and only turn to Stafford if necessary...which it will be quickly. Boller shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Stafford...he was a guy who blew up because of combine numbers. He was never an NFL QB, I'm convinced he is functionally retarded with a helmet on. AT least Stafford will have decent recievers and a RB in Detroit, something Boller didn't have. Just a shitty year to have the #1 overall.

The coach and GM agree with you. Curry was their man. Bill Parcells said he wasn't enamoured with any of his choices last year in Miami, but you just pick a guy that you think will be a 10 year starter, and it all works out in the long run.
With a roster that is as deficient as the Lions, I think building from the ground up would have been a more prudent way to go.

I really think Chris Wells is the best pro prospect Ohio State has produced since Orlando Pace. Had he been healthy this year, there is no doubt in my mind he would have been in the discussion for the first overall pick. I tend to agree with Tressel's notion of not even having Beanie fill out paperwork because he is worthy of a top five pick. Should he slip to the teens, he would be one of the best steals out there.
Guys like Beanie and Andre Smith are being overlooked while guys like Tyson Jackson, Mark Sanchez, and I might take some heat for this one, but Michael Crabtree, are being way too hyped IMO.
This draft has a lot of quality depth in it, but it does lack the star power we have seen in previous years.

Jackson goes #3. Seems like a big reach.

He's a hole-plugger. Seems like a huge reach at #3 for someone whose purpose is to plug holes.

Well, maybe this will leave Aaron Curry for the Browns. Hopefully Seattle doesn't take him.

EDIT: Curry cries as he is taken by Seattle. He must not be a Seahawk fan.
