2009 NCAA Basketball Tournament

I think it is record only and Mich will be left out in the cold.
The decision is about more than simply the record, or teams would schedule lousy pre-season games like PSU did.
How about Jwins. Do tyou think Mich will get in ? as the 7th team or as the 8th?
I see no way PSU makes it in ahead of UM.
scUM also played Connecticut tough at Storrs before losing 69-61.

PSU's SOS is awful.
Good call, not sure how I forgot about that one. Penn State would get obliterated by UConn.

I won't be surprised if Minny, scUM or PSU gets left out, but I think PSU is less likely to get a bid than the others, because of their soft schedule. The Committee does look at who you played, and who you beat.

OOC SOS rankings:

scUM 98 (went 3-1 vs PSU and MN)
Minny 160 (went 1-3 vs PSU and UM)
PSU 320 (went 2-2 vs MN and UM)

Advantage scUM

One thing I find interesting is that Arkansas beat Oklahoma (Dec 30) and Texas (Jan 6) a week apart to move to 12-2. The Hogs then lost 15 of their last 17 games, to finish dead last in the SEC.

Not sure what to make of that, given the SEC doesn't look so good yet Oklahoma is being talked about as a 1 seed.

What you say has merit but the committee does look at record and a B10 team with 22 wins carries weight , we will see.
Not as much weight as RPI, SOS and wins over Dook and Oooooookla. Like Jwins said, if W-L is all that mattered, schools would line up patsies to whoop up on. PSU has a very "hollow" 22 wins and the commitee will see that. I don't want the scUMbags in there just to prolong their misery, but I'm pretty sure they're in.

Moving right along does anyone think the B10 has a final four team ? if so whom?
I don't. MSU may have the best shot, but they're flawed. We'll see how the seeding plays out, but I think MSU would need a favorible bracket and a couple upsets ahead of them to get past the Elite-8.

Has Okla lost two in a row ? I think they have lost a #1 seed.

I really think the Big Ten only has 5 clearly deserving tourney teams. Minnesota, Michigan and Penn State all are full of warts. If only one of the three gets in, I think it will be the Wolverines owing to excellent wins against Dook and UCLA (still cannot feature how in the world they did that). Nits won't make it regardless IMO.

For all the complaints about how 8 teams from the Big East could get in, that's only half their league; analogous to 5 or 6 Big Ten teams dancing. And I think it's easier to find 8 really good teams in the Big East than 6 really good ones in the Big Ten.

Agreed. It is pretty absurd the Big East has 16 teams, but think about the fact that West Virginia was a 7 seed in the conference tournament is pretty amazing. The same West Virginia that came into Columbus, kicked us in the nuts, and had a night out with our ladies.

scUM would be an interesting tourney team. If they get a hot shooting hand, they can knock off anybody, anywhere. Problem is, that doesn't happen very often and they are just as prone to be blown out of the water. They have some really ugly losses to go with those two big wins.

Agree , they only have 1 1/2 players.

PSU, scUM and Minny are all rooting for Utah State tonight. The Aggies are 29-4, but playing Nevada at Nevada for the WAC title. Nevada has to win. USU would 29-5 with a loss, and an at large candidate.

Utah State looking to end all doubt early, up 19-4.

We all remember USU, don't we? :ohwell:
