My 20-to-1 offer still stands to those who have already picked Pryor and/or Brewster as captains...

You're neglecting to remember the rules of the game. No sense in picking the same captains someone else did, is there?

It's all about the vcash.

If your measuring the worthiness of being a captain based off of awards and all-american titles, then I gotta say what has Cordle or Ballard done so far in their three seasons to really merit being a captain under these standards?
Pay attention to previous discussion before jumping in. I was addressing martinss01's surprise at Laurinaitis being picked as a junior, and stating that his outstanding performance, along with his leadership, made a him the exception to the rule. While Brewster and Pryor may have the leadership normally needed as a captain, they haven't done anything worthy of making them an even greater exception to the rule than Laurinaitis was.

Captains aren't picked on awards or accolades, they are picked on leadership.
Uh, I think I got a handle on the captaincy thing. If seniority isn't usually the paramount factor, then why was it that up until Laurinaitis was picked as a junior that all previous captains were seniors? Seniority comes first, then leadership.

You're probably right here. Question for you Mili...do you agree with that approach?

Cordle, Pryor, Coleman, Homan.

I have a feeling that Coleman gets one for sure. QB with leadership skills usually is one but he is a Soph so it is a long shot. I also thought that a Frosh would never start at QB over a grayshirted senior so maybe it is a time for firsts.

Woah woah woah, chillax man, I've been in this discussion since page 1, but I was addressing your post, not martinss01's. Maybe I didn't make myself clear in my response to yours, but I was more focused on your quote here:

Now, aside from playing solid football for true freshman for most of the season, what did Pryor and Brewster do to even remotely deserve mention as captains as true sophomores? Uh, yea
This is why my post directly responds to the accolades portion but also questions why you would pick Cordle and Ballard if they have done nothing but play solid football for three years?

I mean from what I saw from Pryor this season and what martinss01 pointed out in post #44, Pryor has shown he has true leadership ability after just 1 year of playing at Ohio State, while I just don't see the same qualities in either Cordle or Ballard... you just seemed to have picked them because they were the only returning seniors on the offense next year.

Also not to nitpick, and I know your probably talking about Tressel's regime specifically, but this statement you made is not even close to being true:

2000 - Joe Cooper was a junior... what did he do his sophomore year besides be such a vocal leader for the team?

Noting that Coleman, Ballard and Worthington are the 3 Buckeyes heading to the Big Ten Kickoff Luncheon, Dave Biddle speculates that the captains will be those 3 plus Jim Cordle.

edit - that combo was first listed by Dubs on page 2.

I may be mistaken but I'm pretty sure we are talking about captains under JT. Joe Cooper is irrelevant to the discussion since JT did not pick him as captain.

After TP was named preseason Big Ten offensive player of the year, JT was asked today if there was a chance that Pryor could be a captain as as sophomore.

Ozone

Speculation arose that Pryor could possibly be elected a captain at OSU in just his sophomore season. Tressel was asked if he would allow that, but Tressel's remarks seemed contrary to that notion.

"I don't know about "allow". I have a lot of votes but I'm not sure I have a hundred-some.

"I guess sitting here at this moment I'm not sure that that's something you would want to add to a sophomore's plate, but we'll see how things evolve."

Nice poll, but..... you have 1.5 Billion Vbucks and the best you can come up with is 25,000 ? :wink2:

Well, according to the rules I put forth, it looks like buckeyesin07 is the winner of the contest, for reporting it first, since nobody named Spitler and Worthington together.

And so I'm not too vCheap, I'll make the prize v$100,000.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Seniors http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/Vi...743&SPID=10408&DB_OEM_ID=17300&ATCLID=1059335Kurt Coleman, http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/Vi...743&SPID=10408&DB_OEM_ID=17300&ATCLID=1059336Austin Spitler and http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/Vi...743&SPID=10408&DB_OEM_ID=17300&ATCLID=1059362Doug Worthington were elected as 2009 captains of the Ohio State football team, as announced to the squad today. An offensive game captain will be selected each week.

"This is an honor - I'm so blessed to be in this position," said Coleman, a four-year safety from Dayton, Ohio (Northmont) who is majoring in sport and leisure studies. "It's not just a title - I want to lead our team the best way I can to make sure we reach our potential."

"It's a blessing to be able to represent this team,"said Worthington, a fifth-year defensive lineman from Athol Springs, N.Y. (St. Francis HS) who is a communications major. "I'm just an extension of the seniors and coaching staff. It's a great honor."

"I'm honored and truly grateful to be in this position," said Spitler, a fifth-year linebacker from Bellbrook, Ohio (Bellbrook HS) who will graduate Sunday with a bachelor's degree in communications. "I want to lead this team to best of my abilities; hopefully we'll go far."

The last time Ohio State had only defensive players as permanent captains was in 2002, when Mike Doss and Donnie Nickey were captains of the national championship squad.

The 2009 Buckeyes open the season Saturday, September 5, hosting Navy in a noon game at Ohio Stadium. That contest will be televised by ESPN.
