2009 BP Poll - week seven

Okay, okay, fair enough. I'm just not seeing it, personally.

I don't have Oklahoma ranked, using reasoning that you posted. But I can see that people who fill out their poll using more of a 'which team do I think would win' method still have them ranked.

I think the problem in this thread was that your first post called the coaches retarded, and seemed to imply that folks still ranking Oklahoma have somthing in common with them.

I would have liked to have seen Oklahoma's string of AP poll appearances get broken, just on general principle. :wink2:

Wow, good call. Looking back at it I can definitely see it being read that way, when all I meant to imply was that I ignore the coaches poll because it's totally irrational, I didn't mean to connect it with posters here in any way.

To anybody offended: :oh:

Does anyone deserve to be ranked after about spot #20 or so? I think the Big East will shake out without 4 teams in then top 25, but for now, I don't see hoe South Florida drops out just because they lost to a team in the top 5. If Lower tier Big XII schools are ranked, then I think Central Michigan deserves it as much as anyone, as they are playing good football and should run the table.

I'm trying to figure out if it's their win over Oklahoma, who's not in this top-25, or their 54-28 home loss to Florida State that's causing a #6 ranking. Or are you actually Steve Young? :wink2:

  1. Alabama - Over the course of the first half of the season, they have played better than anybody else in the country - Florida included. I love watching Ingram run the football.
  2. Florida
  3. Texas
  4. USC
  5. Iowa - They're doing just enough to get by. A Buckeye fan has no room to knock them for that - so far they're getting the job done.
  6. Cincinnati - We're about to see if this team's success is more about Tony Pike or his coach, Brian Kelly. I think it's the latter, but I don't think it'll be enough when they get into the meat of their conference schedule. They're going to have to close their second half stronger than their first half if they want to win the conference.
  7. Texas Christian
  8. Miami (FL) - I'm interested to see how others handled the Miami-GT-VT circle of defeat - I gave Miami benefit of the highest ranking of the three, due to their performance in a tougher schedule outside of that round robin.
  9. Penn State
  10. Louisiana State - Having been humbled by the Buckeyes' loss to lowly Purdue, I'm here to give LSU credit for winning some tough close games, with the notable exception of their loss to the Gators.
  11. Georgia Tech - Love watching this team just because they run the damn football. I get annoyed with this team when they think it's a good idea to pass the football.
  12. Virginia Tech - The third team in the ACC round robin is the only one with a loss outside of that group. It was to perhaps the best team in the country, but still it has to count for something - right? Plus, despite having BLASTED the team I consider the top one in the group, they went out and got all they could handle from Duke. Yes, Duke.
  13. Oregon
  14. Oklahoma State - This team seems very average, but so far they've got the job done outside of that hiccup against Houston. I don't think this'll last, and right now it's as much about what teams that used to be ahead of them just did.
  15. Utah
  16. Oklahoma - This is going to be controversial I suppose, but I think my argument from last week still stands. I think we can start to tell who might be whom based on what has happened so far this year - call it a hybrid approach somewhere between the resume approach and the neutral field approach. This has been the unluckiest team on the planet this year - not that that should have any bearing - just an observation. They've lost three games by a total of five points, and have lost an A-A TE and the defending Heisman winner at QB twice now. There are a lot of teams out there who wish they could go through that and perform the way Oklahoma has.
  17. Nebraska - Didn't get to see this game. Not sure whether it was a letdown after last week's big comeback, or whether the 4Q against Mizzou was just an abberation. I'm thinking it was probably more of the latter.
  18. Ohio State - My gut reaction after the game was to leave them out of the rankings altogether. Offensively, they don't belong anywhere near the top 25. They don't have even average special teams right now either. The defense is still a beast though - even though the rest of the team is really making it hard on them with turnovers and huge time of possession deficits. In the end there were just too many teams out there that had also fallen or shown huge warts to punish them any worse than the rest of the group.
  19. Wisconsin
  20. Boise State - True, they are still undefeated and the other teams I have ranked near them aren't even close to that. True, they did beat Oregon and I have them ranked higher than this. Tulsa?! Cal-Davis?! If they played anybody worth a damn we'd all be saying it's only a matter of time...
  21. South Carolina
  22. Pittsburgh
  23. California
  24. Arkansas
  25. West Virginia

I'm still watching footage and compiling my poll.

I watched the game, and I've watched Oklahoma quite a bit this season. They haven't impressed. Injuries have really hurt the team, yes -- but that's where the team is right now. They don't really have a rushing game to speak of and their backup QB now has to take over for the rest of the season, and he's average at this point (still young, of course).

But based on your implication that I don't "understand" what I'm watching and just run my mouth, why would you want to see my poll at all?

Please, educate me on what you've seen from Oklahoma that has impressed you enough to keep them ranked at 3-3. What are you understanding that my feeble intellect can't grasp?

Sorry, "brah", but I guess I don't take kindly to some kid who starts ripping on other people's polls without posting one of his own.

Oklahoma has been more impressive in their three defeats - largely played with a backup QB - than some "ranked" teams (which obviously impress the hell out of you) beating up on crap teams with their full lineup.

Boise State is a classic example. Oklahoma toyed with Tulsa, beating them 45-0 without Bradford. Boise hangs on 28-21 and I'm supposed to believe there are only 3 teams better than Boise?

Meanwhile, several "ranked" teams have built gaudy records playing garbage while OU has lost 3 games (all away from home) by 5 points - total - against teams that are 17-2. Is it really that outrageous for someone to believe they might be the 25th best team in the country? Is it really that tough for you to consider that possibility? Does it really need to be explained to you?

Apparently, the answer to all three questions is "yes".

c'mon man, it's the classic case of the two-headed monster. Just like coach Holtzth thays, "iths a different theam eaths week."

#19 Houston is the is the team that beat Oklahoma State, #25 Houston is the team that lost to UTEP.
