Chicago's Draft

1st round -Jeremy Maclin WR - Played in 13 games, had 56 catches for 773 yards and 4 touchdowns.

2nd round - Phil Loadholt OT- Played in 15 games and started each one for the Vikings this year.

3rd round - Derek Pegues S- Was on Chicago's practice squad this year.

4th round - Mitch King DL- Was with Tennessee but did not play during the regular season.

5th round - Rhett Bomar QB- Signed with NYG but did not play.

6th round - Anthony Parker OL- Don't think he made the NFL.
7th round - We never got that far in the Draft.

Summary:
Not a great draft in overall success but the first 2 picks were studs.

Final Grade:
B

1. New York Giants - Clint Sintim, LB, Virginia **Backup LB for the Giants.

2a. New York Giants (from Saints) - Brian Robiskie, WR, The Ohio State University **Browns...think I'll leave it at that.

2b. New York Giants - Paul Kruger, DE, Utah **Solid first season in Baltimore. Had an INT for a TD.

3. New York Giants - Jason Watkins, OT, Florida **Went undrafted. Signed with Saints, released, and is now with the Bills.

4. New York Giants - Sherrod Martin, CB, Troy **Drafted in the 2nd round. Had 2 INT's in his first start.

5a. New York Giants (from NO) - Courtney Greene, S, Rutgers **Drafted by the Seahawks in the 7th, released, now with the Jaguars.

5b. New York Giants - Otis Wiley, S, Michigan State **Picked up by the Lions. No playing time in 2009.

6. New York Giants - Brooks Foster, WR, North Carolina **Drafted 5th round by Rams. Injured in August and didn't see any playing time.

Not bad overall. Sintim was actually taken by the Giants and is a backup. Could start eventually. I think Robiskie would've been much better off a Giant than a Brown. Kruger and Martin both showed flashes but this ended up being mostly a depth draft here.

Grade: C+

Cincinnati's Draft

R1 (6): Andre Smith, OT, Alabama - Picked 6th overall Cincinnati (0)
Broke foot in training and inactive for the first ten games. Played in the remaining six games with one start. Shows promise and looks to be multi year starter at RT. Look for vast improvement in his game with a training camp under his belt, if his work ethic is there.

COACH MARVIN LEWIS SAYS: ?Andre?s physical ability is no secret, but our coaches really became sold when they got a chance to talk with him about football. We watched him light up talking about protections, where the point was and all those things that can go unnoticed at times. And when we?d watch game tapes where he really dominated, he might say, ?Well, but last year we lost to them, Coach.? This guy wants to be very, very good.?

R2 (38): Micheal Johnson, DE, Georgia Tech - Picked 70th overall Cincinnati (+32)
Played in all 16 games, 17 tackles, 3 sacks, 5 passes defended. Shows good potential as an every down player. Could be a force off the edge.

COACH JAY HAYES SAYS: ?If Michael could have made the plays he made on a more consistent basis, he?d have been one of the top three or four people picked. But he can do exceptional things, and it?s our job to get him to play that way. This kid is a willing soul, a ?yes sir, no sir? type of guy. He comes from a strong family. I believe his best football is ahead of him, and that?s all we can ask for.?

R3 (70): Jonathan Luigs, C, Arkansas Picked 106th overall Cincinnati (+36)
Played in 8 games, zero starts. Could turn into a servicable player, needs development. Wishes for Eric Wood...

COACH MARVIN LEWIS SAYS: ?Jon is a big, strong guy, and very, very smart. He was a pleasure in the time we spent with him at the Scouting Combine, and we also spent time with him at the Senior Bowl, so we have been around him quite a bit. He?s competitive and tenacious

R4 (102): Jared Cook, TE, South Carolina Picked 89th overall Tennesse (-13)
Played in 14 games with 9 catches for 74 yards, zero touchdowns.
Potential. Potential. Potential.

"Cook flashed in a big way during the preseason, but dealt with a high ankle sprain and concussion and finished his rookie campaign with just nine catches. Alge Crumpler is an unrestricted free agent and Bo Scaife will likely be a restricted free agent. Cook is expected to have a bigger role in 2010, but he's still a project right now."

R5 (134): Andre Brown, RB, North Carolina State Picked 129th overall New York Giants (-5)
Injured in the preseason, placed on IR. No comment.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Giants running back Andre Brown's rookie season is already over.
The fourth-round pick, who was having an impressive training camp, suffered a ruptured left Achilles' tendon in practice on Friday evening. He will undergo surgery next week for what is a season-ending injury, according to the team's public-relations staff.

R6 (166): Jason Phillips, ILB, Texas Christian Picked 137th overall Baltimore (-29)
Injured in the preseason, placed on IR. No comment.

?I think you all have gotten to know that when we take a defensive player, that player has some special traits about him ? the way he plays ? and Jason plays that way,? Ravens general manager and executive vice president Ozzie Newsome stated. ?I think he?ll come in and he?ll get the opportunity to compete with Jameel [McClain] and Tavares [Gooden].?

R7 (198): Darcel McBath, FS, Texas Tech Picked 48th overall Denver (-150)
Played in 13 games, zero starts, before going on IR. 26 tackles, 2 interceptions, 3 passes defended. Possible starter in the future, cutting his teeth behind Brain Dawkins and on special teams.

"Promising rookie Darcel McBath broke his arm yesterday in a loss to the Colts and will be lost for the remainder of the season. A 2nd round pick out of Texas Tech, McBath had a nice rookie campaign so far and should be a nice option at safety for the future."

Overall, I would grade this draft a B. We showed good value, evidenced by the -129 scale based on the mock draft positions vs the real draft, but are still looking for more solid production. The potential is definitely there to be a better than average class. My notes in italics.

Best pick: Darcel McBath
Worst pick: Jonathan Luigs. Once I hit 'submit reply' I immediantly starting kicking myself for not selecting Eric Wood.
Weird coincidence: Was I in the Bengals war room? My first three selections were selected by Cincinnati.

I don't care how good the picks were. Picking the exact first three picks as the Bengals is what impressed me the most. Damn.

Score (0-10) based on expected productivity for a player drafted in that position.

1-2 St. Louis - Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia
Drafted 8th overall by Jacksonville. A mid-season bout with the flu led to a poor conclusion to a season that started off well. Score: 5 - OL take some time to develop and he performed well against Mario Williams the week before he got sick. But an OT taken 2nd overall should perform better than he did.

2-3 St. Louis - DJ Moore, CB, Vanderbilt
Drafted by Chicago with the 19th pick.........in the 4th round. Appeared in 3 games for the Bears, 2 of those being the last 2 games of the season, recording no statistics. Score: 1 - pretty much a throwaway pick here - 3rd in the 2nd round should produce a guy who can at least contribute and probably be a starter, not be a guy who's only PT is late season garbage time.

3-2 St. Louis - Antoine Caldwell, C, Alabama
Drafted 13th in the 3rd round by Houston. Appeared in 11 games, starting 3. Score: 7 - maybe a little better than what you would expect from a 3rd round OL pick - filled in well here and there for the Texans - hard to gauge the performance of an interior lineman.

4-3 St. Louis - Jairus Byrd, CB, Oregon
Drafted 10th in the 2nd round by Buffalo. By far, the best pick in my draft. Recorded his first start in week 4 against Miami. In the five games following that, he intercepted a pass in each, including tying an NFL record by recording 2 interceptions in 3 consecutive games. Missed the last 2 games with injury, but still ended up tied for the NFL lead with 9 interceptions. He was also named to the Pro Bowl. Score: 10 - no brainer

5-2 St. Louis - David Bruton, S, Notre Dame
Drafted 14th in the 4th round by Denver. Appeared in 14 games, starting 1. Played primarily on special teams. Score: 7 - special teams contributor who played fairly well in his limited opportunity - With Brian Dawkins and Renaldo Hill currently manning the safety positions for Denver, he won't get much time on the field outside of ST, but...that is not an indictment of his ability.

6-3 St. Louis - Greg Isdaner, OG, West Virginia
Went undrafted after forgoing his senior season. Was signed and released by both Dallas and Philadelphia and is now on the Eagles practice squad. I should have known better than to draft someone that played for DickRod. Score: 0. Fuck Michigan.

Overall grade: B- The Byrd pick makes up for the poor selections of Isdaner and Moore. Monroe, Caldwell, and Bruton were solid picks, if unspectacular.

KC's draft - and a reminder before the Mock and actuals:

Todd Haley;1403276; said:
Pioli is really the brains behind this - any good, and all the bad from this years picks belongs entirely to him. He owns it, you hear me, he owns it.

OK, without further ado ...

Round 1 - Aaron Curry LB Wake Forest (3rd) - Actual KC Pick was Tyson Jackson DE, LSU, Curry ended up at the Seahawks (4th pick overall) netting steady numbers of 61 total tackles (7 solo - 2 sacks). Which stats were easily outshone by each of the trio of 'SC backers that ended up starting across the league.

KC's choice ended up with zero sacks and 38 combined tackles (11 solo) in 16 appearances. On balance - difficult because of different positions, our reach was better than KC's actual reach. Both were slightly (Mock) to certainly (Real) underwhelming.

Steady choice, not an "A" certainly no lower than a "B"

Round 2 - Pick 2 - traded from KC to Cardinals with QB Matt Leinart picked up. in the Mock the Cards too LeSean McCoy. Actual KC Pick at this point was ...

a trade, to the Patriots. Think they didn't get the value of one Heisman winning playboy ticket-sale pumping QB from out west out of the Patriots? Bet on it.

OK - this was a glitz glamor and amusement pick and roll trade. But, consider, Leinart might very well have been a better option under Center than Cassell - plus there's the publicity and positive vibe of having an option at QB other than ...

a former USC QB who never started a game in college :) (Who ended up with as many picks as TDs and relatively shitty yards on a busted team).

Given the irony that KC actually did trade this spot, and the relative merits of the trade for that 2009 draft - I'm giving Mock KC a huge plus. Rate it an "A"

Round 3 - Pick 3 - Fenuki Tupuo, OT, Oregon in real life KC picked Alex Magee, DE from Purdue. Why, I have no fucking clue. I guess they wanted yet another stiff at the DE position. Living up to KC's low expectations Magee netted 8 combined tackles and 2 sacks.

As for Tupuo, well his travels took him to Philadelphia were he promptly went on Reserve status and traded shaggy dog stories with Vick.

Give KC real the win on that pick - but both picks (see later) were over-priced. A "C"

Round 4 - Pick 2 - Louis Murphy, WR, Florida. In real life KC took CB Donald Washington out of The Ohio State University. This automatically grants them a BP-win status. Still, what happened to Murphy (and his law)?

Louis Murphy ended up in one the current hell-holes of the league, the Oakland Raiders. Overcoming the lack of regular passing he netted 34 catches and a 15.3 yards per catch average. He actually reeled in 4 TDs - which might count as a significant percentage on a team that only scored 17 all damned season.

Washington meanwhile saw somewhat limited action, appearing in but 8 games.

I report - you decide, but for the purposes of this rating I'm giving a win to Mock KC based on offensive output under the most trying conditions a madman can devise. Rate the Mock pick a B. (FWIW, Murphy went pick 24 in Round 4).

Round 5 - Pick 3 - Kyle Moore DE - USC The actual Round 5 pick by KC was Colin Brown OL out of Missouri - he ended up on reserve. Kyle Moore ended up Tampa Bay contributing and is the starter at DE with similar productivity to KC's actual round 3 pick (Magee), for less money in this Mock draft.

I'm rating this well-priced snatch as an "A" at that point in the draft. (Moore actually went Pick 17 - Round 4)

Round 6 - Pick 2 - Anthony Hill, TE, North Carolina State. The actual KC Round 6 pick at this spot was Quinten Lawrence, WR, McNeese State. Yeah, I know - he caught 1 pass for 9 yards. That Hill kid meanwhile? He did no better, 1 catch - 9 yards with the Houston Texans. Limited playing time. Call it a wash between Mock & Real. Hill actually was the 22nd pick in the 4th round, so, I'll credit my Mock brains trust with a "B" for getting "C" talent for "D" money).

Round 7 - Pick 2 - Cary Harris, CB, USC. The real Round 7 Pick at this spot went to Javarris Williams, a RB out of Tennessee State. He saw very limited action and ground out 6 yards on 6 carries. Cary Harris, in limited action had 5 total tackles and 2 passes defended. My Mock pick actually went as the 10th pick in the 6th round. I'd go with a "C" average on this pick.

Notably KC Mock covered most of their needs known going into the draft. Not so Real KC.

Overall Grade?

Mock - B and all praise Pioli.

Real KC Draft? C (They failed to cover all their needs and their trade (for 2009) was relatively weak.

Baltimore Raven's draft was picked by a last minute fill-in, because mods were desparate and no one else wanted to represent the dirty birds.

I'd much rather have the Bucs than the Ravens. It just doesn't feel right having a Browns fan as the GM of the Ravens. I don't care what kind of precedent Ozzie Newsome has set...it just isn't right.

Who wants Baltimore? Cincinnatibuck?
We need a baltimore... any takers?
(Gracelhink)
I have some Baltimore roots and would take the draft for the Edgar Allen Poe fowl who is best known for instigating the distress and dissent into madness of one who has lost his true love. But, this year only and nevermore.

So with the blind limited knowledge garnered in my Dead Poet Society meetings this is the result of the Baltimoron ventures.

Round One drafting at #26, the Ravens selected Darius Heyward-Bey WR of Maryland. Heyward-Bey was actually selected at #7 by the Raiders, (+19 value) who were then roundly criticized by draft experts for wasting a high pick on a late first round value. The experts were right, Heyward-Bey was a major disappointment in the Raiders offense. Through the first 7 games he caught 2 passes for 36 yards. He showed some signs of improvement over the last 5 games with 7 catches for 88 yards. His hands and route running were a major disappointment for the Raider fans. Even though Heyward-Bey was a reach and bust at #7, at #26 he would have still been considered a bust. Draft grade D+.

Round 2 drafting at #57 the Ravens were shocked to discover Josh Freeman QB Kansas State was still on the board. Freeman was actually drafted in rd 1 at #17 (+40 value) by the Tampa Bay Bucs. On the season Freeman was inserted into the starting lineup after the Bucs started 0-7. Over the last 9 games Freeman passed for 10 tds, 159 of 291 for 1857 yds and led the Bucs to a 3-6 mark, including wins over playoff bound Green Bay and New Orleans. Draft Grade A.

Round 3 drafting at #76, the Ravens selected Darius Butler CB of U Conn. Butler was actually selected by the Patriots in round 2, #41 overall (+35 value). Butler played in 15 of the 17 games at CB for the Patriots and earned the starting position in week 9. Draft Grade B+

In Round 4 the Ravens used two selections on defense selecting LB Gerald McRath with pick #111. Mc Rath was actually selected by the Tennessee Titans in Rd 4 #130 (-19 value). After starting the season 1-7 the Titans inserted McRath into the lineup and finished 7-2. McRath contributed 47 total tackles on the season including 41 over the last 8 games. Draft Grade A-.
With pick # 119, the Ravens chose Lawrence Sidbury DE of Richmond. Sidbury was actually drafted by the Falcons at #125 (-6 value). On the season he contributed 5 tackles in a back up role. Draft grade C.

In the 5th Round the Raven selected a big tight end at #154, Shawn Nelson of Southern Mississippi. Nelson was actually drafted by the Bills in round 4 at #121 (+33 value). On the year Nelson contributed 18 receptions for 157 yards and 1 td. When inserted into the starting lineup over the last 8 games he snagged 12 passes for 92 yards. Draft Grade A-.

Round 6 at #185, the Ravens chose Stanley Arnoux LB from Wake Forest. Arnoux was actually selected by New Orleans at #118, in round 4 (+67 value). Arnoux made the Saints roster but in the first practice was placed on injured reserve with a torn achilles heel, and missed the entire season. Draft Grade Incomplete.

Overall draft Grade: B.
Overall value of picks (where they were selected in the mock draft vs. actual draft) +169.

Well that's not entirely true.

Pick #1 is correct - Andre Smith
#2 - Michael Johnson was actually the Bengals 3rd round pick.
The actual 2nd rounder was Rey Maualuga.
They also got Chase Coffman in the 3rd. (Compensatory pick)
Luigis was their 4th rounder. (Not 3rd)

But you're right. It's DAMN impressive to have nailed 3 picks of their top 5.

Gawd... my draft SUCKED!!!

SAN DIEGO

Round 1 #16 - Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU - As sandgk mentioned he was picked #3 overall, so at least I got value with this pick  But like he also said, just 38 tackles and no sacks.

Round 3 #14 - James Davis, RB, Clemson - I think us Browns fans know the story with him. Probably would have been the starter at HB if not for Shoulder injury that put him on IR for the year. But if I got value from my 1st rounder, no value here as he lasted til the 6th round in the real draft

Round 4 #13 - Chip Vaughn, S, Wake Forest - Another guy that went on IR for the season. But I was correct with the mock as he did go in the 4th round.

Round 5 #12 - Kaluka Maiva, LB, USC - Another Browns pick... what up wit that? Good special teams player... not bad for a 5th rounder. But the Browns picked him in the 4th round... ummm, wash?

Round 6 #16 - Andy Kemp, G, Wisconsin - Undrafted free agent that camped with Minnesota but was cut and I can't find anything else on him.

So yeah... ummm, THAT was crappy. But I blame the previous SD GM for sticking me with only 5 picks. And really... my 1st round pick probably would have been preceived to be better if he went #16 versus going #3. A tad bit different expectations there.

Sorry, but Leinhart has sucked pretty hard in Arizona. That team actually has as good if not better WR's than New England. Considering Leinart is another big contract, doesn't attract flies, and has been horrible I would rate it a C at best (more like a D). I think you are being rather generous. Cassel has proven himself more in the NFL than Leinart. In his time in Arizona, Leinart's rating is about the same as Cassels in KC (70.8 vs. 69.9). So Leinart, with one of the best WR corps in the NFL performed as well as Cassel did in KC (and no where near what he did in NE).

BTW...KC did get Mike Vrabel with Cassel. Not much, but Cassel is better than Leinart. So adding in Vrabel makes it worse.

All I know is Parrish sucked hardcore on Hard Knocks. Coffman got killed on that show, but Parrish was almost as bad. It was brutal watching him.

Tampa's draft:
1st round - DT Peria Jerry - 2 games played with 1 AST before going on IR for a knee injury with Atlanta

2nd round - OG Kraig Urbik - 3rd round pick by the Steelers. Lost the job as a backup to another rookie. Only played in the last few games. I picked him too high, and he still couldn't beat out a fellow rookie. BUST...for now.

3rd round - WR Mohamed Massaquoi - 2nd round pick by the Browns. Had a solid rookie season. Showed signs that he may be very good, very soon. Also showed signs that he may just be Braylon light, without the attitude.

4th round - CB Captain Munnerlyn - 7th round pick by the Panthers. Obviously a huge reach taking him in the 4th round. He did perform well as a nickel corner. Which is exactly what I drafted him to do.

5th round - WR Brandon Tate - 3rd round pick by the Patriots. Played in only a few games. Spent most of the season on the PUP list or on IR. We'll see if he's a bust next season

6th round - Brandon Gibson - 6th round pick by the Eagles, and traded to the Rams. Played in the last nine games for St. Louis, and put up respectable numbers for a 6th/7th round WR.

7th round - Bernard Scott - 6th round pick by the Bengals. Solid backup to Cedric Benson. Pretty much all you can expect from a 6th/7th round RB.
Summary:
After I'd drafted Tate, I thought that I was done with WR, despite TBs desperate need at that position. When it came to the 6th round I couldn't believe that Gibson was still on the board. Apparently, he wasn't the 6th round steal that I thought he was, because he was a 6th rounder in the real draft, but he did eventually produce a little for a bad team. Couple that with Tate's injury, and I think that drafting a third WR didn't turn out too bad.

Urbik was the only true, uninjured, dissappointment in my draft. However, the Steelers' change from a power running team to a passing team may have played a part in the former Wisconsin lineman not being able to crack the two-deep.

Final Grade: C+ could turn into an A- if Jerry and Tate produce...'A' if Urbik gets with the program.
After reading through, and mocking, the generous grades that some people were giving themselves I re-read mine. A C+ is a little too high.

1) Incomplete. That means that Jerry gets an 'F' until he can complete his coursework.

2) Fail. Maybe the Steelers decide they want to be a running team again, and Urbik might be able to help them out, but after one year, Urbik in the 2nd round gets an 'F'

3) Got a deal in the third round, and Massaquoi performed adequately for a rookie receiver. First year grade of C

4) Performed well, but not a 4th, 5th, or 6th round pick. D for the massive reach. First year grade of C

5) Incomplete. 'F' for performance (always injured). 'A' for pick value. Performance matters more. First year grade of 'D'

6) 'B' for late season performance. Became the teams #2, due to injury, late in the season, and performed well enough to show that he's got a future in the NFL

7) 'B' for being a viable part of the Bengals offense, and for getting him a round later than he was taken.

F, F, C, C, B, B

My adjusted grade is dropped to a C.

Except for the fact his ass is sitting behind a QB who is only 3 years older, and performed well this year. So unless Flacco gets hurt, no one knows a damn thing about Freeman and adds zero value to Baltimore.

A person could get Dan Marino, but if you have Joe Montana already starting on your team it's not that great of a pick.

Oh, and yeah, I am bored and decided to nitpick these evaluations for fun.
