2009 Big Ten Football Discussion

I agree with this...... i think the Big 10 is decievingly better than its been the last three years. I would also mention that Purdue gave Oregon every thing they wanted.... a few bounces there and the SC game and the perception is totally different. Unfortunatly I think scUM needs to be a national contender again to make the Big Ten a top conference...

How Rolle is not anywhere on this list is a joke to me. I can see Boom being left off due to injury, but I still feel like he deserves honorable mention. Chekwa also not anywhere to be seen. Posey doesn't deserve honorable mention either?

Michigan's defense had 2 1st team defensive players, we just had 1. There is something wrong there.

Overall OSU had 2 first team selections. I know I am biased, but I feel like OSU got shafted on this list.

Here's the coaches team. I posted in Cam's thread almost the exact same thing, JXC. Some Buckeye players, especially on D, got hosed this year, IMO.

How in the [censored] did Ferentz win B10 coach of the year? If you look at the all B10 teams, he had more 1st team and second team selections than tOSU (another [censored] joke) doesn't that mean he had better players this year, they should have won the conference.

I agree with the others who have said, "we'll take the title", but that is pretty pathetic all the way around.

Jim Tressel started in 2001 and just won his 6th B10 title.

Kirk Ferentz started in 1999 and just had his 6th winning season of B10 play.

Fuck Kirk Ferentz and his hype.

After looking at the all Big 10 team selections, it would appear JT is the one "doing more with less." Isn't that always the argument we hear to justify whoever else wins coach of the year? We always hear that Ohio State wins all of the time because they have "superior talent." Evidently not true, based on the media and coaches votes.

And I'm sure when Rich Rod wins his 6th conference game next season, he'll get Coach of the Year consideration too.

Number of teams with more first team All Big Ten players this season than Ohio State: Five

Number of teams with more Big Ten wins this season than Ohio State: Zero

I usually don't care about BS awards, but this year was a freaking joke. But then again, these are the same clowns who failed to elect Nick Mangold to the All Big Ten first team in 2005 ... even though he was named a first team All American!

By the way, how many of those first team defensive players would you take over the Buckeyes' starting eleven?

DL: Thad Gibson.........O'Brien Schofield....edge Gibson
DL: Cameron Heyward.....Adrian Clayborn......edge Heyward
DL: Todd Denlinger......Brandon Graham.......edge Graham
DL: Doug Worthington....Jared Odrick.........even
LB: Ross Homan..........Pat Angerer..........edge Homan
LB: Brian Rolle.........Greg Jones...........even
LB: Austin Spitler......Navorro Bowman.......edge Bowman
DB: Kurt Coleman........Kurt Coleman
DB: Jermale Hines.......Tyler Sash...........edge Hines
DB: Chimdi Chekwa.......Amari Spivey.........even
DB: Devon Torrence......Brad Phillips........edge Torrence

Please tell me if I'm being a total Buckeye homer here. But in doing so, throw the pre-season hype and the stats out the window - for example, Pat Angerer's bullshit 135 tackles ... with 94 assists! - and try to focus on actual talent and athletic ability and how they actually played this year. Graham and Bowman are great players and could find a spot on any team, but the other guys? Not so sure about them....

And while we're at it ... Ohio State players definitely got screwed, but how in the Hell was Jared Odrick voted the defensive lineman and defensive player of the year over Brandon Graham?
