I really don't see a lack of teamwork. They seem to take what's there and if the perimeter players are guarded then Jantel is one-on-one in the post or Sammy has a driving lane. When they help off the shooters, Sammy kicks it out or Jantel passes out of the double. I don't think they reversed the ball as much the last few games and seemed to get locked into scoring off the first entry, but I don't see that as selfish play - maybe impatient.

The perimeter shooters, except for Sammy and Tayler, do not get their own shots all that well, so they need a kick out to be most effective. For the most part, they've been excellent at making their shots when they're face up, less so on the move or off the dribble. The one glaring weakness is the lack of a scorer off the bench - there have been 4 or 5 games where bench scoring has been 5 points or less and that could be a problem if injury or foul trouble arises.

That said, almost every team in the country could be said to have the same "problems". This is an athletic, balanced, hard working and very complementary group. As they continue to improve (and Tayler should be a much better player as her experience catches up to her obvious talent) they could be very, very good.

UConn is going to win it all and Stanford, IMO is clearly better than anyone else not playing in Storrs, but on a given day I think the Buckeyes could place anywhere from 3rd to 10th best team in the nation. A Sweet Sixteen should be achieved and Elite Eight and even a Final Four appearance is possible depending on matchups and execution. I think that's realistic.

Guess we can agree to disagree on the teamwork issue, but it's a unanimous feeling in the large group where I sit each game that it is a definite problem. Enough said on that.

Agree that lately ball reversals have not been priority, way too many 1-pass-quick shots way too early in the shotclock, one-and-dones have been the norm without good numbers on offensive rebounds. Impatient yes, overexcited maybe, but that could explain why they sometimes get behind quickly. Thankfully they've got the talent to correct early mistakes and so far have been able to come back.

Still no excuse for not setting screens, still a correctable problem that would make a world of difference. Not questioning the girls decision-making as much as coaching. I coached enough years to know the girls are only doing what they're told, even though some watching may not understand that to be the case.:osu:

Another GREAT post NYT!!! You seem to understand (and enjoy ) good women's basketball more than most. Many on these boards seem to feel that the Big 10 is a weak conference, our Hall of Fame, 700 win, coach is weak, and all the other teams in our league are also weak.

It kind of implies that at East Lansing we were playing a sort of stumbling, oafish team that runs into things and would rather be home reading a book. I know that some unflattering things have been said on this board about old MSU because I am guilty of saying some of them...........but the fact remains that they are still ranked #20 even with 5 losses. The reason for that is that they have wins over Dayton, Oklahoma State, North Carolina, Xavier, and a last second one point loss to Notre Dame. Fact is they are an excellent team and, as you point out, had a well conceived game plan and the personnel to carry it out.

:biggrin2: When they started winning consistently, a game or two, in the NCAA tournament then you might see more favorable posts. Also, it is great to see screens to free up a three-point shooter but the player taking the shot has to make it. They have not been a consistent outside shooting team from the beginning of the season.

I commend Foster on his graduation rate and his more up-tempo style of play this year but sometimes I do question his coaching.

Buckeyes dismiss Illini, somewhat sloppily, 72-61. Maria hit back to back threes to blunt Illinois' last run and secure the win. It was never really in doubt but IU showed grit and toughness by hanging in and getting it as close as 3 in the second half. Karisma Penn and Whitney Toone had nice games for the visitors; Jenna Smith played on a bad leg and was obviously hindered by it.

Sammt had another excellent shooting game and led with 24. Jantel had a very slow first half but finished with 12 and 9. Too many unforced TOs and Illinois hit the offensive glass hard all night, but the defense wasn't terrible and did force numerous mistakes. Brittany (9) and Tayler (8) had solid games and Andrea came off the bench to tighten up the board work. Not a masterpiece but another good win.

Looking forward to another good game today at 2. Will probably come down to who plays the best defense. Indiana I believe is leading the league in guarding the perimeter shots, so assume this one will be decided in the paint. Good luck ladies, today could be a big day for Lavender:osu:

OSU let IU hang around with too many turnovers against the zone defense, but has pulled away late. Now up 79-62 with a minute left to go. Leading only by 5 at the break, OSU pushed it out to 14, but the Hoosiers crept back as close as 7. If I heard correctly, OSU has doubled Indiana on the boards.

Lavender with 20 and 13. Prahalis with 23 points.

81-64 final.

19-1, 7-0 for the Bucks. :oh:

Popular saying of the day - 'A WIN IS A WIN'! Not pretty, waaaaaay to many turnovers trying to force it inside. Good to see Shultze being more aggressive inside today, seemed to be moving much better. Hill & Johnson struggled from the perimeter, but Johnson played a very solid game defensively. Her shots were all dead on target, minor adjustments with her followthrough should correct the problem. Walker was impressive today off the bench and brought in much needed rebounding.

Whoever coined the phrase 'defense wins ballgames' gets the gold star! Still trying to force too many layups inside, and tonight against a 6'5" post proved to not be a good idea. Hope to see improvement on offensive rebounding, putting hands up would help! Hill is now 0-12 the last 2 games, look forward to her breaking out at Purdue. Maria was clutch down the stretch again, Lavender finished strong, Johnson still at 50% from 3 pt range, Stokes' defense was her best to date.

Little's steal toward the end of the game was huge, almost as exciting as the one she had last year against Purdue at the Big Ten Tournament! Keep up the hard work, bring home another 'W' next Monday.

That means Thad (9-2) and JT (8-1) have to keep winning in order to not look bad by comparison. :tongue2:

But a combined 28-3 (90.3%) certainly works for me.
