2009-2010 Lady Buckeyes Basketball (6 straight Big Ten Titles)

"30+ years of abuse. And I absolutely believe - based on conversations with fellow ticket holders over the past three decades - that their policies have hurt attendance."

Something has sure hurt attendance. !!!! Except for her first year, when she had support, scintillating Katie Smith was pretty much a one person basketball team....yet still often drew eight to ten thousand people a game. I realize that those games were in St John Arena (I was there), but even after moving to Schottenstein they were seating six or seven thousand........when Beth Burns had run most of the team into crutches and boots and we were fielding volleyball players and soccer players on the basketball court!!!

You may very well be correct that the Athletic Ticket office is the villain, and their policies the cause of the pathetic attendance this beautiful team suffers. If so, they had better pull their collective heads out (no personal offense intended) or the situation will get worse.

With Bigten.net streaming virtually every game that Big Ten is not carrying on High Definition....there may be much lower attendance in our future..... no matter how highly this team is ranked.

As for the Schottenstein "end zone" seats seats you speak of.....they stink- on-ice. No one should have to pay money to sit there and, I believe, fewer and fewer will. Most of those seats are 30 to 50 yards behind the closest basket and the sight lines are terrible. That is, of course, because it is a dedicated hockey arena and not a proper basketball venue.

Good luck in your crusade!

Okay, here are a few things I think I see with West Virginia;

They have beaten two schools. Towson (79-42), probably about the same competition level as we have played. Marist (55-50) probably a little better team than we have played.

WVA seem's to play good defense but has some trouble scoring. Against Marist fg 34.4% and 3's 24.0%. It looks like it was a tough defensive battle on both sides but I can't believe Marist plays tougher defense than we do.

They out rebounded the smaller Towson team 49-31, but Marist only 49-46.

WVA seems to play only six girls. Possibly low minutes to a seventh, but they don't seem to be very deep. Five of the six are juniors, so they do have experience. The center (6-4) is a freshman and seems to be a pretty good inside scorer....14 points in each of the two games.

The two forwards are listed at 6-0 and two of the guards at 5-7. We should have a bit of a rebounding advantage.

The other guard is a girl from Ohio, and named Repella, she is listed at 5-11 and her jersey number is 35. They seem to rely on her for perimeter shooting and she had 17 points in the first game and 13 against Marist. In the Marist game she only went 2 of 11 from behind the arc but that tells me that the coach has given her the green light to shoot 3's. That is the kind of player that can get hot, so I assume we will keep someone in her face all evening.

Conclusion; The only big advantage that we can be sure about, at this time, is that we are very very deep. Therefore, if we play tough defense, foul them when we must, and run (run-run-run) at every opportunity, they will be out of gas in the last 10 minutes and it should be all ours. Go Bucks!

Great to have somebody doing game previews for the Ladies.

Maybe some day we will have TWO threads dedicated to Women's Basketball.

Agreed, nice work!

If I'm not mistaken, we also get Shavelle Little back tonight, which can only help on the defensive end. Maybe we stick her on their shooter, especially if she's the PG. I'd also expect more full court pressure tonight than we've seen in the last few games.

The #3 ranked team and the BTN still hasn't featured them for a game. Wasn't that the point of the network?

No reason we can't have some tape delayed games or rebroadcast instead of "Campus Programming". I mean really, Campus Programming versus the one the top teams in the country. I'm sure the country stands behind me when I say I'd rather watch tOSU girls bball than TSUN football. :wink2:

Come on BTN get it together. Where's all your auxillary channels you fought so hard for?

Agree. I have watched some other women's BB games on tv, why not the #3 ranked team? No respect. BTN wants to have people pay their 3 bucks to watch their streams instead of showing the games. BS
Yes the 3 game suspensions are over.

Gritted my teeth and bought a ticket. Ended up on the side court - but then again, nobody else was there.

Nine-zip in 1:30 with 4 different players scoring. Seventeen-zip before WVU made a basket. Almost flawless play on both ends during that stretch.

Impressed with the tenacity at both ends. With under 4:00 in the first half and a 16 point lead - the time in a game where you might let up a bit - WVU had three straight possessions of less than 5 seconds before they turned the ball over. They just don't quit on D which means there is always something going on.

For the most part the Offense was all about the transition (witness Little at 5 for 5). Half court worked when they were willing to kick it back out but not so much when they were pounding it inside with no real openings. That may just have been something Foster wanted to work on as they did it less when WVU crept back up.

Hill does not play like a Frosh, but still has a long way to go with her game. Of course, she has an entire career less 4 games to get there. Love to watch Little play. Lavender and Prahalis are picking up where they left off. I wasn't sure Schulze was up to playing full time based on what I saw last season. She is. Also impressed with how much more athletic Moeller and to a lesser extent Walker are than what I saw of them last season.

Demographics of the sparse crowd were interesting. First time since the semifinals of my co-ed shuffleboard league championship that I may have been below the median age at a sporting event. Couldn't have found a student if I tits and a beer.

It's a good show. Go see it.
