2009-2010 Lady Buckeyes Basketball (6 straight Big Ten Titles)

I was really looking forward to seeing the girls give UCONN a run for their money. If Prahalis and Lavender were on fire...clicking on all cylinders, then the Lady Bucks may have put up a great fight. Ah well, another early exit.

No surprise the critics following a loss always blame the coach. I, on the other hand, would like to see some accountibility go to the girls. Of course I question why adjustments weren't made since man defense obviously wasn't working, especially with the Hill/Rack matchup. ESPN is loving showing replays of all the shots Rack made with no defensive pressure at all. But to stop doing what worked in the first half is still my biggest question. Perimeter shooters rarely touched the ball, teamwork was nowhere to be found, definitely needs to be addressed. So much talent, let's hope it gets put to better use next season. UConn is the ultimate example of teamwork; they have 2 superstars, but play the most spectacular team basketball I've ever watched.

Let's go ladies, use the off-season to work on flaws to prepare for another record-breaking season.
:osu:

Looks as if you are contradicting yourself a bit. First, you say don't blame the coach, put accountability on the players. Then, you go into detail about questionable coaching moves made by Foster? You are correct, tOSU does have the talent. After many years of early exits, maybe it is time to see what someone else can do with that talent.

I must admit I am not an avid Lady OSU Basketball fan, but I do try to keep track of them from time to time.

Foster has been poor not just in the tourney but against quality opponents outside the conference particularly on the road. And I would put as much on personnel as game planning. Just too many kids who struggle against quicker competition.

That said, anybody who wants to replace Foster before he retires on his own is flat crazy.

In the eleven years before Foster took over OSU 's best conference finish was 4th. Foster was 3rd his first year and has won every season since.

Beyond that Foster is well known for the academic achievements of the girl's he recruits.

Not every change improves results and to suggest a coaching change because we want to pretend we are UConn makes little sense.

While we are at it - why not fire the GD OSU basketball fans who don't show up to watch the most exciting men's team we have had in at least a decade and who don't even know where the ladies play. Samanta Prahalis is throwing no look, behind the back passes in front of 2k and we want to blame Foster for not stealing kids from Pat Summit?

STORM: Nancy Darsch Coach Page

that being said, i can count on one hand the number of osu womens basketball teams ive seen in person my entire life. and a couple dozen (at most?) for games on tv.

then again, youre the third highest paid coach, pulling down 789k (or so). then again markell go paid something (anything) which made him overpaid...

Really thought the ladies had a run in them this year, at least to the UConn matchup. I'm not sure what team that was on the floor yesterday, but it didn't look like the same Buckeyes that were around in the regular season - standing around, rebounds hitting the floor, rushed shots, etc.

The game actually reminded me a lot of the men's matchup against UCSB - the Bucks let the refereeing get to them, but MSU was a good team, and we didn't have the talent differential to overcome it. And not that it would have mattered, but MSU must have laser accuracy hands to strip the ball cleanly that many times. :ohwell:

Jim changed his style, he tried to recruit more athletic players...Sammy P, landed some big time recruits, in Lavendar, Hill, Johnson, Sammy...

I was behind him...He has brought great things to this university...

I was hoping this was the year we got over the hump...

With all that said next year is going to be an even better team. We return our entire starting lineup...

More time from Stokes, Jackson, Harmon, Sanders makes us more athletic...

Our two biggest shortcomings this year were turnovers and inability to guard dribble penetration...I think a year older team, cuts down on turnovers. Not sure on dribble penetration defense, but learning some sort of help defense would help...

We lost two top 10 girls from Ohio this year to UCONN and FSU. Yeah it sucks, we landed a top 50 girl out Ohio, and then some other solid players.

I would say final four or bust next year, and I would hope that the school, schedules some big time OOC games early in the season, because we need to get more expeirience playing against talented teams, because the big ten, is not helping us.

Nancy Darsch: .652 career record, 234 wins, 4 Big Ten titles.

Jim Foster: .715 career record (~.800 at OSU), 716 wins (212 at OSU), 6 (consecutive) Big Ten titles.

It definitely sucks to see another high-seeded Lady Bucks team exit the tourney too early, but Jim Foster has gotten *results* everywhere he's coached in college basketball, including his entire time at OSU.

Foster = Bob Todd IMO . . . except that OSU doesn't have the recruiting disadvantages in women's hoops that it has in baseball. I agree that while it's frustrating that his teams crap out early in the tourney almost every year, it would be insane to fire him because of the quality of the overall program he runs.

that was basically my point. on one hand the darsch can do better. look at what happened between that and the foster era?

then again on the flip side at ohio state every dog has its day. be it woody hayes, or anyone else. i try to think of coaches who left on their own terms (gary williams to maryland) and some may argue fred taylor, be it in his last four seasons he won 8,4,8,2 big ten games at ohio state. he might have "retired" but dont think he wasnt pressured out.

my basic point is, whatever the future, the man makes 726k. the grass may or may not be greener. the reality and expectations of that salary and being a buckeye is though one tough to overlook.

like i said, beyond the casual commentary i havent/dont watch enough womens hoops to make a well informed decision on foster and/or other coaches for the spot, etc. the worst thing you can do is after a hof coach like lou hotlz hire a bob davie, george oleary, mike price, tyrone willingham, kent baier, charlie weiss debacle....

I think you know how I feel about Foster. Yes, I was very pleased to see him change his style of play this year to a more up-tempo game but he is just too cerebral for me (I would like to see a coach with a little more fire in Their belly). I think most coaches would have been t'd up long before Sammy got called for one. The Bulldogs played very tough defense and we did not respond.

I will give you the fact that he is a great educator for young women but that really doesn't mean that he is a great basketball coach. He has had some decent players over the years and make it to only one sweet 16 does not cut it for me plus he has lost quite a few big-time players out of the state of Ohio. I will give him next year and see what happens with all of this "talent" that he currently has.

PS I believe Oklahoma comes to Columbus next year and we play Connecticut (Oh My) in New York City also so we do have at least two quality out of conference opponents for next year.

Please do not bring up his excellent career winning record because that has not cut it since he has come to Ohio State when it comes to playing in the NCAA. Something is wrong somewhere.

I didnt get to see the game but take my girls to quite a few games a year. We all love watching the Lady Buckeyes, I wish the fans got out to see them more.

I am not sure if that has an effect on Foster recruiting the State of Ohio but we sure do lose our fair share of talent here locally. I think recruiting has been pretty decent even though we aren`t landing the top players in the state on a consistent basis. If we were we may not be having this discussion.

Why we don`t do well in tournament, I have no idea but we need to schedule early games with athletic teams from the SEC. I think an early season game against elite athletes would be good but the problems seem to be more than just one particular thing. Go Lady Bucks

Just posted on the ESPN website for National yearend rankings:

Jantel Lavender: Scoring #9 21.4 PPG
Rebounding #25 10.3
FG % #33 51.4

Sam Prahalis Assists #2 8.0 p/game
Brittany Johnson 3 Pt % #2 48.1%

Congratulations ladies! Quite an accomplishment, now use those individual talents by making them all work together to build a very strong nucleus of a team for next season. Hard work in the offseason will pay off in the fall.

I agree with the fire thing...Think he needs to work to get a little more control of the team, and sack it up so to speak and not be such a nice guy at times...They need some toughness in them for next year...

Darryce Moore Boardman girls
Published: Sun, April 11, 2010

Two-time Federal League Player of the Year Darryce Moore has plenty of positive memories to chose from when she reflects on her four-year career playing center for the Boardman High girls basketball team.

One of the major ones was defeating Howland in the regional final and playing in the Division I state tournament in 2008.

?Going down to Columbus with that team was great,? said Moore who has a scholarship to Ohio State University. ?Our team that year ... that was our best.

Moore said Spartans coach Ron Moschella ?knows how to motivate you. It was my junior year when I started listening past the yelling.?

Playing this season with Doriyon Glass, who has recovered from three ACL surgeries, was special. ?She?s such an inspiration. Having her back was great; it was just like playing again in seventh and eighth grade.?

Moore said her college choice was between Ohio State and Michigan State, where former Boardman teammate Courtney Schiffauer has a scholarship.

Also going to Ohio State will be her brother J.T., a Boardman senior who has a football scholarship. ?We?re best friends. Having him go to the same college as me is awesome because not a lot of brothers and sisters can do that.?
