2009-2010 Big Ten Bowl Season

I believe none of the Big Ten bowl winning teams was a favorite. I didn't check but all 7 may have been an underdog.

all 4 wins are great. Just to show you...In college football each season is its own. Lots of things change from one season to another.

I think PSU was the only team ranked higher than their opponent and think they were favored by 2 or 3. Could be wrong????

ESPN just took a good moment to talk up the Big Ten on Sportscenter.

They had a graphic displaying the Big Ten's four bowl wins, and it pointed out at the bottom that those Big Ten teams had combined to beat four top-15 teams in their victories, and that that was only the second time that had happened in the BCS era.

And that other time was also by the Big Ten, in 1998 (rankings are AP, pre-bowls):

By the Big Ten, in 1998, the first year of the BCS.
#3 tOSU 24, #8 Texas A&M 14 (Sugar)
#8 Wiscy 38, #6 UCLA 31 (Rose)
#15 TSUN 45, #11 Arkansas 31 (Citrus, now CapitalOne)
NR Purdue 37, #4 Kansas St 34 (Alamo)

Penn State was ranked ahead of LSU in human polls, but was #13 to LSU's #12 in the final BCS rankings.

Penn State was favored by 2.5 over LSU
Minny was also favored by 2.5 over Iowa St

It helped that the Big Ten champion was not in the National Championship game. Pull each of the Big Ten teams up a game and the results may well have looked like the last two years.

Two thoughts.

First, last year the B10 didn't have a team in the NC game and the results were different.

Second, the B10, unlike most conferences, had two teams in the BCS. That suggests that some B10 teams are facing tougher competition than would be the case if only one team was in the BCS.

So has hell frozen over, and will pigs start to fly now that the Big 10 has won our fair share of bowl games? Funny how a number of the teams the Big 10 beat(or almost beat, DANGIT Northwestern) were from the south where we can't keep up with our slow country boys, lmao!!!

I was in New Orleans over Xmas, and met a couple guys from LSU, and they were talking about how the fastest player from OSU's past couldn't keep up with LSU's middle of the pack. I asked him what the 40 times for their fastest player was and they said 4.3, and I had to remind them that we had a kid named Tedy Ginn that ran a 4.3 as well, and they couldn't believe. I had to remind them that 40 times don't change the further south u go, it's just a myth that the media plays up and fans soak it up. I'd love to see some of those same fans now after LSU lost to slow "Yankees" from PA, lol!

This bowl season goes to show that we don't need tSUN to be relevant or good in order for tOSU or the Big Ten to get respect. tOSU is in the national title talk for next year and people are talking about how solid the conferenced showed out.

It's just a blog from someone I never heard of; but his last tongue-in-cheek comment can be turned around and used as very good advice for Big Ten fans:

TSN BLOG LINK

...Since the last thing that happened is the thing that will always happen forever, everyone is required to leave us in peace until next year

While the detractors' past behavior certainly allows for it (as hinted at by the author); let's not act like this year's bowl results are the only relevant data points, ever. If we do that, we are guilty of the same short-sightedness that plagues the headlines-as-news media.

Nice article on rivals giving the Big Ten a lot of respect for a terrific bowl season performance. We are preseason No.2 for next season on most "way-to-early" ballots that I have seen....a perfect set up for a National Championship run next year. The Dynasty continues, and those kids that didn't jump on board yesterday at the All-American Army bowl, simply missed the bus!

They'd just tell you about how the refs robbed LSU.
